President's Message Summer is in full swing, and unfortunately, CSTR continues to struggle.
As most you know, we are a small group with usually less than ten foster homes at any given time, and unfortunately, we have lost a couple of those foster homes for various reasons resulting in even fewer places for incoming dogs to go. The need, however, continues to grow.
Nathaniel | We did take two new dogs into the program in July. 10 month old Nathaniel and 6 year old Celeste, both Shih Tzu, were part of a very large puppy mill release that occurred in Missouri. Celeste turned out to have pre-pyometra, a fatal condition if not surgically treated, and so we are extremely glad that we were able to bring her into our program and get her treated. Both are very sweet dogs who appear very eager to begin their new lives outside a puppy mill! Nathaniel has already found his forever home, and sweet Celeste hopes to find hers soon. She is a bit timid, but her tail wags constantly and she is learning very quickly to accept and enjoy attention. Her Petfinder page will be up soon, so if you have been thinking about adopting, be sure to check her out.
Jameson and Edris | July saw four of the CSTR foster dogs find their forever homes. We are thrilled to congratulate Scarlett and Family | Scarlett, Maizie, Jameson and Nathaniel and their new families!
As I shared in last month's newsletter, the downtown in the economy is most definitely hitting CSTR hard. Donations are down dramatically, yet vet bills continue to rise. Healthwise, Kyle continues to take two steps forward but then a step or two back, which has meant ongoing and numerous trips to the hospital as well as tests and medications. We also have several dogs in the program with health issues that require daily medications, and so the bills continue to accumulate. For the month of August, CSTR is holding a Rescue the Rescue fundraiser in our attempt to raise $1,000 toward our outstanding vet bills. Will you help? You can donate through our "ChipIn page" via PayPal or credit card or you can send a check to our mailing address -

The downturn in the economy continues to affect nonprofits in the form of decreased donations, but it has also affected rescues, CSTR included, in that fewer people are willing to foster, which directly affects how many dogs we can take in at a time. If you are thinking about fostering, please consider this.. CSTR provides as much or as little assistance as you need. All vet bills are paid by CSTR, and we will provide heartworm and flea preventative as well as dog food, if needed, also. So if cost is all that is holding you back, please do not let it stop you from getting involved as a foster parent.
If you are not able to foster but would like to get involved, we can use your help, too! There are many things that we need assistance with other than fostering, so if you have a knack for fundraising or like talking on the phone, or have other talents, please visit our Foster/Volunteer page and submit an application today!
Thank you to you all. These are definitely challenging times, and appreciate all of you so very much.
