Summer is Here!

After a beautiful and quiet Memorial Day weekend, CSTR is gearing up for a very busy summer.  We brought in four new dogs in the month of May and did several adoptions, and we are looking forward to the new faces that will come into the program over the next month.  Be sure to check our calendar to see where we'll be, and if we're in your area, come out and see us!  We always love seeing our supporters, and we especially love seeing our adopted dogs.

As you know, Kyle suffered a significant set back during the month of May but is making progress slowly.  See below for an update on his health and our plan to help him possibly walk again.

Thank you again to all of you who continue to encourage and support CSTR and our mission.  As I ask every month, if you can give, please do.  The dogs need us and so, as always, we need you.

CSTR brought four dogs into the program in May!

Connor
Connor
One year old Havanese mix brothers, Connor and Spencer, came from a Quincy, IL shelter where they had been abandoned after their backyard breeder owner went into a nursing home.  The shelter thought them to be Shih Tzu, but once we
Spencer

got our hands on them, it was obvious they were Havanese mixes.  They are sweet but shy boys who were not apparently socialized very well but are quickly learning the benefits of cuddles and kisses.  Connor is the more outgoing of the two and is learning how to shake hands in his foster home.  Spencer is coming along a bit more slowly but will be ready for adoption soon.

Allie
Allie
3 year old Allie was picked up as a stray on the streets of Chicago and taken to the Animal Welfare League, where she was evaluated and transferred to CSTR.   She was in terrible shape and matted so badly that vet staff didn't think, at first, that she had eyes because the matting in her face was so dense.  Once the groomers because cutting away the matts, though, they found that she did indeed have eyes, and under all of the hair was a very tiny, sweet girl who had recently given birth to a litter of puppies.  Allie is spayed now and recovering in her foster home and will be available for adoption in the next couple of weeks.
Camden
Camden

And last but not least, 8 month old Camden came into the CSTR foster program from a southern Illinois shelter where he had been surrendered because his owners could not care for him any longer.  Camden is a friendly, active puppy who loves to play and hasn't met a stranger.

Kyle UpdateKyle
Thank you to EVERYONE who has donated to help with Kyle's medical bills.  It has been a harrowing month for the little guy, but we are pleased to report that after his significant set back, he is making progress.  Thanks to the dedication and commitment of his foster mom, Julie Forkal, Kyle stood on his own for the first time on May 27.  While he was able to stay up for only 6 seconds, it was quite an achievement for a dog who a week earlier had no use of his legs at all.

We are very hopeful that his appointment with a rehab doctor on June 3 will be a very positive experience and that he will be cleared to begin a therapy program that will lead to him walking again.  We will need financial help, though, as the treatments will cost, roughly, $400 each month, so if you can help out, please visit CSTR's Donate page or click one of the buttons at the bottom of this newsletter to make a tax deductible donation.

He is definitely a determined little guy, and despite all of this, his tail keeps wagging.
