Kyle In our last two newsletters we introduced and then updated about Kyle, a 3 year old Shih Tzu that was picked up as a stray by Animal Welfare League in Chicago.
Kyle came into the CSTR foster program with ulcers on his eyes so bad that we had to have both eyes removed. He had infections in his ears so bad that it looked like he had mushrooms growing in them, and the hair was missing on them due to sarcoptic mange. Despite all of the pain he was undoubtedly in, though, he never once growled or snapped, and his tail constantly wagged. He thrived once his eyes were removed, and every day he seemed to be well on his way toward being ready for his forever home.
Unfortunately, last week he began exhibiting some severe pain in his abdomen and back. After consulting with several of our vets, it was determined that he was suffering from a degenerative spinal disc disease, and in just a matter of 24 hours lost the use of both of his back legs. Kyle spent 3 days in Intensive Care, and with pain medications and steroids, he is showing some improvement. He can wag his tail again as well as urinate and defecate on his own, and he responds to pain in his back feet although he cannot stand on his own or walk. Our vets view these improvements as indications that there is a very real possibility that Kyle will walk again. But in order to give him the best possible chance, he will need to see a specialist and begin a rehabilitation program. Of course, doctors cost money, and Kyle's vet bills are already high from his surgeries, treatments and three days in intensive care. But we truly feel that this little guy is determined to live. His tail wags constantly, and despite everything he has been through, he remains a happy boy who loves to pass the time snuggling in his foster mom's arms. So we feel that it is our duty to give him the best possible chance at as normal of a life as he can have.
So we need you. We desperately need help to pay for Kyle's vet bills and the specialist and rehabilitation appointments that he will begin next week. If you can help. please click on one of the buttons below or send your check to the mailing address listed to make a tax deductible donation. By doing so, you will help Kyle get his chance at the best possible forever.
On behalf of Kyle, we thank you.
