Tea Party Association Calls for Month-Long Chick-fil-A BuyCott;
Says Fast Food Chain Faces Discrimination from Philadelphia Councilman, Boston and Chicago Mayors, Among Others
Philadelphia (July 31, 2012) -- The Independence Hall Tea Party Association, the largest independent Tea Party group in the tri-state region, is calling upon its members and supporters to participate in a
month-long 'BuyCott' of Chick-fil-A, beginning tomorrow.
The effort, being held in conjunction with a nationwide call by Governor Mike Huckabee to hold a Chick-fil-A Appreciation Day on August 1st, is to show support for a company that has come under increasing attack because its president, Dan Cathy, dared to defend 'traditional marriage' -- and did so using a biblical context.
"In America, leftist like Philadelphia Councilman Jim Kenny and Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel support all types of diversity except when it comes to a diversity of opinion," said Association President, Teri Adams.
"To threaten government action against a law abiding company solely because its president voices an opinion that these men disagree with is completely irrational, discriminatory, and hateful.
"To seek retribution by proposing a city council resolution condemning Chik-fil-A or advocating a zoning prohibition against Chick-fil-A is a simultaneous attack by government against freedom of speech, freedom of religion, property rights and free enterprise," said Ms. Adams.
"Both the mayors of Chicago and Boston emphatically stated that Chick-fil-A does not belong in their respective cities. They are claiming this--not because Chick-fil-A has violated any health or tax codes--but simply because they are intolerant of the rights of others."
"We believe thousands of our members and friends will show their support
for Chick-fil-A by dining at Chick-fil-A restaurants tomorrow and throughout the month of August."
