As the holiest weekend of the year comes to a close, it is a most appropriate time to reflect on the importance of religious liberty and toleration.

No matter if one is Catholic, Jewish, or Mormon, this country, in the tradition of 

William Penn (founder of Pennsylvania and Delaware), offers each of us a tremendous gift -- religious freedom.

That freedom is under assault, today, by a presidential administration seeking to undermine all churches by intentionally directing the Roman Catholic church to engage in practices it deems morally offensive and highly unethical -- and using supposed "Catholic" officials (i.e. Kathleen Sebelius) to enforce its edicts.  

The administration knows full well that the Catholic church would close its hospitals and charitable institutions before it would ever abide by regulations (not laws) that are antithetical to its teachings.

Predictably, leftist media types, like Lawrence O'Donnell and others, are abetting

the administration's assault on religious toleration on another front. They are openly 

ridiculing Mormonism in an orchestrated effort to undermine the candidacy of the likely Republican nominee and the credibility of the Mormon church itself. 

We must not only remain vigilant in protecting our liberties -- we must, in the tradition of our Founders -- actively resist any such oppression by rallying behind those freedoms so wondrously enunciated in the Declaration of Independence and the United States Constitution.
