Dear Members and Friends,
Just a few hours ago, Governor Tom Corbett signed HB 934 into law!
Kudos to you, Dom Giordano, our Republican legislators, and the Governor for making Pennsylvania the latest state to enact Voter ID.
The Association commends Rep. Daryl Metcalfe, prime sponsor of HB 934 -- along with the following co-sponsors:
REPRESENTATIVES AUMENT, BARRAR, BOYD, CAUSER, CLYMER,COX, CREIGHTON, CUTLER, DENLINGER, DUNBAR, ELLIS, EVANKOVICH, EVERETT, GABLER, GEIST, GILLEN, GINGRICH, GRELL, GROVE, HELM, HICKERNELL, KAUFFMAN, KNOWLES, KRIEGER, MAHER, MARSHALL, MILLARD, MOUL, PEIFER, PERRY, PETRI, PICKETT, PYLE, RAPP, REED, ROAE, SACCONE, SAYLOR, SCHRODER, SIMMONS, SONNEY,
STEVENSON, TALLMAN, TRUITT, VULAKOVICH AND REICHLEY.
Reps. Metcalfe, Barrar, Schroder and Sen. Dave Argall kept the Association up to speed on the bill's progress.
We would also like to thank Rep. Mike Turzai for moving HB 934 twice in the House and Sen. Chuck McIhinney for guiding the bill through the Senate.
The following Republican Legislators voted against HB 934:
Reps. Ross, Masser, Quinn; Senators Earll, Greenleaf, and White.
No Democrat, in either chamber, voted in favor of the bill.
Provisions of HB 934 will undergo a trial run during the PA Primary, April 24, when voters will be asked to present photo identification before voting--but will still be able to vote without it.
This November, if the legislation survives challenges in the courts and/or
from the Obama Justice Department, voters will be required to present
photo ID before voting--and will only be able to cast a provisional ballot
without it.
If you live in PA, please thank Republican Reps. and Senators who voted in favor HB 934. (Make sure to add that you're with the Independence Hall Tea Party.)
