Dom Giordano Plays Dr. Benjamin Rush in Today's Reenactment of the
1773 Philadelphia Tea Party (Rain or Shine); Toomey and Schroder to be Awarded Legislators of the Year; Several Tri-state US Senate Candidates to Speak
Philadelphia, PA (December 27, 2011) --- WPHT talk show host Dom Giordano will reprise his role as Dr. Benjamin Rush in today's commemoration of the original 1773 Philadelphia Tea Party to be held on Independence Mall, 6th and Chestnut Streets, from 1-2 PM. WPHT talk show host Gary R'nel will narrate.
The 3rd Annual Commemorative Christmas Tea Party, presented by the Independence
Hall Tea Party Association, will feature Association member John Peteraf as the
adversarial Captain Ayers.
"While the Boston Tea Party of December 16, 1773 has been remembered in history,
few people are aware of the Philadelphia Tea Party, which was held eleven days later on December 27," said Association President, Teri Adams. "Nearly 8,000 colonials came together in the courtyard of the PA State House (now Independence Hall) to democratically decide the fate of the tea which had just landed off the shores of the Delaware River."
The family event will demonstrate how Philadelphians decided to handle the matter in
contrast to their Boston counterparts. In addition, US Senator Pat Toomey (R-PA) will be given an award as the Association's 2011 Federal Legislator of the Year. PA State Representative Curt Schroder (R-PA) will be awarded the Association's 2011 State Legislator of the Year. US Senate Candidates from the tri-state region will address the crowd. Kevin Wade (R-DE), Anna Little (R-NJ), Tim Burns (R-PA), Sam Rohrer (R-PA), and Robert Mansfield (R-PA) will each speak for a few minutes. The Commemoration will also feature the Whitehall Guard Fife and Drum, program booklets, and hot cider and cookies. We are asking folks to bring a small gift or donation
for our troops.
The Commemorative Christmas Tea Party is free and open to the public. An After Party, to be held at the Downtown Club (6th and Chestnut Streets) from
2-4 PM, will immediately follow the Christmas Tea Party. Cost: $25 for adults, $10 for college age or younger. - 30 -
