With Black Friday National Retail Sales Up Nearly 7% Over Last Year, Liberate America Says its BUYcott Succeeded While Occupy's Boycott Fell Flat
Philadelphia, PA (November 28) -- Pointing to statistics indicating that Black Friday retail sales were up 6.6% over last year, Liberate Philadelphia/Liberate America says its nationwide call for a BUYcott resonated with the American people.
The BUYcott, begun by Liberate ten days ago, and promoted by Tea Parties across the nation, was in direct opposition to the Occupy
movement's call for a national 'boycott' of most stores.
"We asked Americans to shop and they responded," said Liberate organizer and Independence Hall Tea Party Association president, Teri Adams. "Of course, we got a little help from the retailers, their great bargains, and their advertising."
"However, Occupy's 'Black Friday Boycott' message was carried in thousands of news stories in a run up to the busiest shopping day of the year--and it's clear that Americans rejected the Idea," said John
Sullivan, Liberate organizer and spokesman for the Cherry Hill
Area Tea Party.
"Americans sensed that the economy needed a boost and they gave it one," Sullivan said. "The overall retail numbers for the entire holiday weekend were also well above last year's figures."
