Liberate Philadelphia Says Arrest of Occupiers Inevitable; Calls for Occupy Philadelphia to Be Disbanded from Site
Philadelphia, PA (October 24, 2011) -- Liberate Philadelphia/Liberate America, a coalition of 5 regional Tea Party/conservative groups representing tens of thousands of citizens, is calling for the disbandment of Occupy Philadelphia from Center City because of the enormous strain being placed on the city's budget.
"We predicted the Occupiers would block traffic. And while we support the right of all people to peacefully protest, we do not think protesters have the right to block bridges, streets, and the free movement of others," said Liberate Philadelphia/Liberate America spokeswoman, Teri Adams.
"The arrest of 15 individuals, yesterday, was inevitable as they were sitting in the middle of a street. And for them to make charges of police brutality--that is simply outrageous since the police have been just the opposite--too tolerant. For weeks now, city officials have permitted Occupy Philadelphia to camp out overnight in violation of its permit, and now, unsanitary conditions have become a serious issue.
"Also, by necessity, the attention of law enforcement has been directed at Occupy Philadelphia, rather than on fighting crime elsewhere in the city," she said. "In New York, as the result of Occupy Wall Street, the crime rate has increased. The same could very well be true in Philadelphia."
"The tactics of the Occupiers are costing the city and the taxpayer hundreds of thousands of dollars. Some of that money might have to be redirected from agencies that serve the poor and disadvantaged. That is another terrible consequence resulting from the actions of angry
protesters lacking any coherent message."
As former Mayor and Governor Ed Rendell recently said on the Laura Ingraham Show, Occupy Philadelphia should just, "go home."
