Best places to be a nurse: Rural vs. urban hospitals-by Sean Dent
When job seeking, whether a new nurse landing their first job, or the seasoned nurse looking for a change, it helps to be aware of some important distinctions and differences between the small rural hospitals and the large, sometimes massive, urban hospitals.
As a general rule rural is non-teaching and urban is a teaching hospital, but keep in mind, these are just general observations.

Healthcare Job Growth Accelerating
John Commins, for HealthLeaders Media
Job growth in the healthcare sector has been strong in the first two months of 2012, accounting for one in five new jobs in the overall economy, and even surpassing the robust pace of job growth throughout most of 2011, new federal data shows.
The Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that the healthcare sector created 49,000 jobs in February, including 28,200 jobs in ambulatory services, and 15,400 jobs in hospitals. J.D. Kleinke, a fellow at the American Enterprise Institute, said the explosion in healthcare job growth "is just more of the same." "Healthcare is recession-proof. Healthcare costs always go up. There is always going to be growth," Kleinke says. "For all its capital and technology, it is still a labor intensive industry. People want to see their doctors. Nursing is very labor-intensive. You can't automate healthcare like you can manufacturing." Read more

The price of an MRI or a CT scan can range from $350 to $2,000, depending on where you get the medical imaging service done.
That difference hits home if you're one of the many consumers whose health insurance carries potentially high out-of-pocket costs. Finding the right provider can be a major financial decision as well as a medical one.
Georgia's largest health insurer is now offering its members help with this problem, providing information to help them compare the price and quality of medical imaging services in the Atlanta, Savannah, Macon, Augusta, Athens, Rome and Columbus areas.
Blue Cross and Blue Shield, which covers more than 2 million Georgians, will be helping its members "make informed decisions about their health care,'' said Alexandra Leopold, a company regional vice president.
