  The Journal-Register

Legislation introduced this week in Congress could help local veterans receive faster contact with faraway medical professionals and reduce the costs of transporting veterans to appointments across the region.

According to Congresswoman Kathy Hochul, a sponsor of the Telehealth and Telemedicine Improvement Act, the legislation offers veterans improved access to specialty care, better utilization of scarce health care resources and improved coordination of care. It also provides the Veterans Administration the authority to waive co-pays for veterans' telehealth and telemedicine.
