Nursing Education Loan Repayment Program

Do you know someone who

is a Nurse Practitioner (NP)? The Nursing Education Loan Repayment Program (NELRP) is reserving up to half of all funding for NPs and we need your help to get the word out.

NELRP offers NPs an opportunity to repay up to 85 percent of their outstanding qualifying

educational loans in exchange for serving at a Critical Shortage Facility that is located in a Health

Professional Shortage Area.

The deadline to apply to NELRP is February 15, 2012 at 5:00 pm EST. NPs can apply to both NELRP and the National Health Service Corps, however if an applicant is selected to receive an award from both, they must select one.

Task forces to discuss report on Medicaid

State officials are creating two task forces to gather input on a consulting firm's report on the future of Georgia's Medicaid and PeachCare programs.

One task force will involve medical provider groups, including representatives of hospital and physician organizations. The second grouping will review the Navigant report's recommendation to revamp services for the ''aged, blind and disabled'' populations.

The advisory task forces will meet separately next week, Jerry Dubberly, state Medicaid director, told Georgia Health News after a legislative budget hearing Tuesday.

Aging America creates demand for health-care workers

(Reuters) - The graying of America and a booming Hispanic population is driving major changes in the structure of the U.S. workforce and the types of jobs that will be available over the next decade, a new government report shows.

Health care and social assistance jobs will be the fastest-growing sectors, accounting for one quarter of the 20.2 million new jobs the economy is expected to generate by 2020.

Commentary: Fix Medicare doctor pay
By: Andy Miller

Senate and House negotiators have returned to the bargaining table to work on the so-called "doc fix" problem involving what physicians are paid when treating Medicare patients.

Unless Congress takes action by the end of this month, doctors face a 27 percent cut in reimbursements under Medicare.

In a new GHN Commentary, Atlanta psychiatrist Dr. Patrice A. Harris writes that if Congress does not solve the pay problemonce and for all, ''physicians will be forced to make unwelcome choices, including limiting the number of Medicare patients they take on.''

Harris, a board member of the American Medical Association, supports using funds originally projected for the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq to eliminate the flawed Medicare formula

CMS Has Updated the EHR Information Center with New Self-Service OptionsFollowing months of review and collective input, the Electronic Health Record (EHR) Information Center Interactive Voice Response (IVR) system has been enhanced to provide users with an increased number of options and services to make accessing and reviewing data easier than ever before.

For eligible professionals (EPs), eligible hospitals or critical access hospitals (CAHs), the revised functionality vastly improves the efficiency in obtaining the desired information, while also offering a more varied amount of information and options for callers.

CMS is proud to announce that providers can now obtain information through an extensive IVR Self-Service option. Included in this option is a reinforced privacy protection module that requires your individual National Provider Identifier (NPI), the last five digits of your Tax Identification Number (TIN) and your EHR registration ID.

Once accepted, this newly enhanced Self-Service tool allows you to:

Obtain registration status

Acquire attestation status

Review payment information

Check progress towards meeting the $24,000 threshold amount

Users may access these new options by following the steps outlined below:

Begin by dialing (888) 734 6433

Press 3 for Self Service

Enter the authentication elements

These options will be available on the IVR effective February 16, 2012.

Make sure to visit the EHR Incentive Programs website for the latest news and updates on the EHR Incentive Programs.
