Georgia Rural Health Association's Rural Health Day

Senator Johhny Grant and George HooksWe would like to thank everyone who came to Atlanta and participated in Rural Health Day at the Capitol.

Our turn out exceeded expectations and we enjoyed learning what you and your organization is doing to help improve and promote rural health.

GRHA was recognized in the House by Alan Powell (R-Hartwell) and in the Senate by Senator Johnny Grant (R-Milledgeville).Senator Grant also serves on the Board of Directors of GRHA.

Senator Grant presented the GRHA Legislator of the Year Award to Senator George Hooks (D-Americus) for his exemplary leadership in addressing health care needs in rural Georgia. Hooks represents a large number of rural hospitals within his 12-county district in southwest Georgia. He was nominated for the award by David Castleberry, CEO of Upson Regional Medical Center in Thomaston.

As the State Senate's longest serving member, Hooks has earned the title of Dean of the Senate, where he has represented rural Georgia for three decades.
