NYNY Spotlight
Fellow Spotlight Gabrielle
Gabrielle is a 2011 Fellow currently attending John Jay College of Criminal Justice. Gabrielle is currently studying history. Her passion is assisting those in need and augmenting their quality of life. With the ongoing support of her Mentor Coach Vincent Barr, Gabrielle has greatly benefited from NYNY. Over the summer, Gabrielle completed an internship at A Better Chance, where she worked in development. Recently, Gabrielle accepted an offer for an internship at the Michael J. Fox Foundation.
Mentor Spotlight Jana
NYNY is happy to recognize an integral member of our volunteer network, Jana Taylor. Jana joined our network as a Mentor Coach in our 2011 class working closely with her Fellow David. Recently, Jana has expanded her volunteer role by becoming an inaugural member of the New Jersey Needs You Young Leadership Board. Jana has been actively working with NYNY to secure high-level speakers and arrange career days for Fellows interested in learning more about the legal industry. She has also lent her expertise to the Career Development Program and recorded an online video sharing her professional experiences with our student audience. We are grateful for Jana's passionate and continued support of everything we do. With volunteers like her, we are confident our movement will only grow stronger. Thank you, Jana!

Dear friends of NYNY,
We fell into autumn with a record-breaking night! I want to give a huge thank you to all who were involved in our most successful Annual Benefit to date, which was held on September 12, at Cipriani 42nd Street. We raised $1.7 million and honored Sean 'Diddy' Combs, Bruce E. Mosler and Raymond J. McGuire. We sold out the night (again) and introduced more people to NYNY and received renewed commitments from others. We say it often, and it is the truth: none of what we have achieved could have been possible without the unwavering support of the NYNY community and network. Thank you to our honorees, our Fellows, Governing Board, staff and everyone who joined in to celebrate a wonderful evening. We look forward to making next year even better! I'd also like to announce some exciting news around our Career Development Program (CDP). Beginning in October, the Career Development Program will begin piloting a series of "Industry Insider" seminars at local colleges and universities. We already have over 600 registrations at Borough of Manhattan Community College! These panels will allow students to have access to industry-specific knowledge, resources and professionals through the NYNY network. We know that this is a great way to help a broader audience of students with their career planning and general career development skills. To learn more about CDP, please contact Marianna Tu, Vice President of Technology and Career Development Programs at marianna.tu@newyorkneedsyou.org. We are still recruiting for Fellows for our next class as well as interns for the NYNY team! The application is live and we need your help spreading the word. Thank you to current Fellows who are Fellow Ambassadors, and act on NYNY's behalf on their campuses while educating and recruiting potential Fellows. On the intern front, we have been at career fairs recruiting interns for all of our departments. If you know of students that would be good candidates for an internship, please direct them here! We hosted another successful Fall Clothing Drive! Thank you to all who donated items and thank you to our sponsors Lord & Taylor, Macy's, Bonobos and The Jones Group for their donations and support. Finally, please vote for New York Needs You in the Chase Community Giving Campaign to help us win $250,000! Voting is open now through September 19th via Facebook or for Chase customers at Chase.com/ChaseGiving.com. Thank you for all that you do for NYNY! Sincerely,
PJ Kim

iMentor Receives NYNY's 2012 BOLD Award!
|
NYNY is proud to announce that iMentor has been awarded NYNY's 2012 BOLD Award; an annual award given to a nonprofit that has gone above and beyond for NYNY. BOLD stands for Bridging Opportunities, Leveraging Dreams. As a collaborative partner, iMentor has supported NYNY in numerous ways. iMentor has served as an important thought partner for NYNY in areas such as volunteer engagement, recruitment and large-scale event planning. Recently, iMentor led a brainstorming session with our volunteer engagement team and Mentor Leadership Council to help us plan our first annual Field Day. In addition to sharing their best practices gleaned from years of experience hosting Field Days for their mentors and students, they also generously donated equipment for us to use for our event. iMentor also continues to support our Fellows interested in learning more about the nonprofit industry by sharing their internship opportunities with our Fellows. They are also working to host a group of our Fellows at their office to give them an inside look at how a premier nonprofit operates. NYNY is proud to partner with an organization whose mission aligns so closely with our own. With continued support and collaboration, we are confident we can advance the mentoring field in New York and across the country.
