Mentor Spotlight Jackie
Jackie Do works at Yodle. She has been a Career Coach since March, and was kind enough to hold a benefit for New York Needs You by donating all proceeds from her art show in the West Village to NYNY. As a result, she single-handedly raised over $3,000 and connected dozens to New York Needs You and our mission. We are thrilled to have Jackie join us for the next two years as a 2012 Mentor Coach! Thank you, Jackie!

Dear friends of NYNY,
Graduation season is filled with rites of passage, speeches, and celebration. And in similar fashion, our inaugural 2010 Class of Fellows and Mentor Coaches graduated earlier this month! Over the course of two years, we have watched our 2010 Fellows grow and evolve into the driven and accomplished leaders they are today. Because of the exceptional support and commitment of the Mentor Coaches and our community, our Fellows embark upon prestigious summer internships, graduate schools and full-time careers. Thank you to New York City Public Advocate Bill de Blasio for speaking at graduation and charging our Fellows to continue to achieve at a high level and give back to their communities. We also thank 2010 Fellows Aleksandr, Ruth, Felix and Breanna, and 2010 Mentor Coaches Isabel and Zheng for sharing their NYNY experiences. We look forward to our 2010 Fellows' continued success and engagement with us as our first class of alumni. To read more about our 2010 Fellows and graduation, please click here. As one class graduates, another begins! We will welcome the 2012 Class of Fellows, Mentor Coaches and Career Coaches at their first Saturday workshop on June 9th. Everyone went through an extremely rigorous selection process and we are thrilled by their potential and enthusiasm! We look forward to working with all of them for the next two years and welcome them warmly into the NYNY community. Finally, a huge thank you to 2012 Mentor Coach Jackie Do for organizing a very popular and successful event featuring a silent auction of her artwork at S'Nice in April! If you are interested in creating your own fundraising effort or event for NYNY, please email Development Manager Matthew Schwieger at matthew.schwieger@newyorkneedsyou.org. Please be on the lookout for special events and programming as we enter the summer! Sincerely,
PJ Kim Chief Executive OfficerNew York Needs You |

New Jersey Needs You is just getting started but board member Maggie Moore has already committed to fundraising for NJNY by running the Newport Liberty Half Marthon in Jersey City this September! We admire Maggie's commitment to NJNY and wish her the best of luck in her half marathon training!
Many know Nasir Qadree as a 2010 Mentor Coach but lesser known are his longstanding fundraising efforts for NYNY. As a nine-time marathoner, Nasir has engaged his friends and colleagues in pledges large and small for each of his races. His commitment to NYNY has truly been spectacular. We are pleased to have him on Team NYNY for the ING NYC Marathon.
Disappointed that you didn't get a lottery spot in the ING NYC Marathon? Team NYNY has one remaining spot! Please email Mason Beard at
mason.beard@newyorkneedsyou.org if you are interested in this special opportunity to run and fundraise for NYNY.

NYNY Partners with Uncommon Schools!
|
|
Uncommon Schools has been a wonderful NYNY nonprofit partner! Uncommon Charter High School hosted NYNY Fellows for a Career Day and provided an internship for an NYNY Fellow. Uncommon also helped NYNY recruit our new class of Fellows by sharing our materials with their network. We look forward to continuing this partnership!
