Mentor Spotlight
Gerald

Gerald (William) Demas is a 2011 Mentor Coach and an avid supporter of NYNY.  Most recently, Gerald served as a host committee member for the Young Leadership Board Spring Fundraiser and secured a generous corporate matching commitment from his company, Macquarie Capital.  In addition to being a leader in the NYNY community, Gerald is an ambassador at his company, and we expect to have more Macquarie volunteers as a result of his efforts. Thank you, Gerald!

Dear friends of NYNY,

I spent this past Saturday, April 21st, with over 90 of you who volunteered to assist us at John Jay College to interview finalist candidates for our 2012 class of Fellows and Mentor Coaches. It was an inspiring day to meet so many outstanding students and young professionals who want to join NYNY and to see the dedication of our current Fellows and Mentor Coaches! Thank you to all of our staff, MLC, YLB and volunteers who have been instrumental in the recruitment and selection process, volunteering their time to read applications and interview applicants.

We speak so highly of our volunteers because they continually come through for us in big ways. Our volunteer-led Young Leadership Board (YLB) hosted its Annual Spring Fundraiser and Auction on April 12. Because of their hard work - including reaching out to their networks to sell tickets and secure auction items - we sold over 700 tickets and raised $125,000! It was our most successful YLB fundraiser to date! Thank you to all who attended, donated or found other ways to give. We're happy that we were able to celebrate NYNY while providing the resources to assist Fellows. And word is getting out about the outstanding volunteer opportunities provided by NYNY: we were just featured in last week's issue of Time Out New York (read about it here)!

I'd also like to announce some staff updates: Anita Fee, formerly Associate Director of Strategic Partnerships is now Director of Strategic Partnerships and Gabrielle Gazzola, formerly Program Coordinator, is now Training Manager, Fellows Program. Please congratulate them when you see them!

NYNY continues to thrive because our community continues to give and serve. Your efforts create results. Thank you!

Sincerely,

PJ Kim

NYNY Game Changer Award Given to Macy's!

Congratulations to Macy's, recipient of NYNY's Game Changer Award! The Game Changer Award is a quarterly award to recognize corporate partners who go above and beyond for NYNY. Macy's has supported NYNY in many ways.  In additional to providing critical financial support, Macy's also provided in-kind support for our Spring Clothing Drive by donating clothing, shopping bags and Dress for Success gift bags for each Fellow. Macy's also participated in NYNY's Interview Day and hosted a Career Day for Fellows, which led Macy's to extend summer internship offers to five Fellows. Thank you, Macy's!

YLB Spring Fundraiser Raises $125,000!

More than 700 friends of NYNY attended the third annual Young Leadership Board (YLB) Spring Fundraiser and Auction on Thursday, April 12.  Due to the incredible efforts of the YLB, we raised $125,000! Thank you to the Young Leadership Board for all their incredible efforts.  We especially want to thank the YLB Fundraising Committee Co-Chairs Ben Feldman and Ethan Silverstein along with the YLB Co-Chairs, Anneka Anand and Keith Putnam-Delaney. Their leadership made this incredible evening possible. Check out photos from the party here on our Facebook page!
