Mentor Spotlight Kene
Kene Anoliefo is a 2011 Mentor Coach and 101% Society member. She is currently a Display Account Manager at Google. Kene has been a key player in helping the New York Needs You staff recruit a new class of Mentor Coaches and Fellows. Thanks to Kene, we were able to host an amazing recruiting event at the Google Headquarters in New York City with more than 250 registrants and a panel of current Mentor Coaches and Fellows. The event was a crucial step in engaging our potential new class and without Kene it wouldn't have happened. Besides this event, Kene has helped NYNY to secure a Google Grant and continues to be an exceptional supporter of the program and an advocate of NYNY. Thank you, Kene!

Dear friends of NYNY,
Spring abounds and is already proving to be exciting! We wrapped up recruiting our 2012 class of Fellows and received almost 600 applications! Thank you to our Programs team who did an incredible job spearheading our recruiting efforts. Also, thanks to all of our volunteers and others in our community who helped spread the word about the opportunities that NYNY provides for first-generation college students. In the next few weeks we will review the Fellows applications, interview finalists, and seek to forever change the life trajectories of 100 new Fellows. The 2012 class will begin in June and we look forward to continuing the tradition of excellence started by our 2010 and 2011 Fellows! Our Mentor Coach application is still open and closes on March 31! Please encourage professionals in your networks to apply. Information about the Mentor Coach opportunity can be found here. NYNY continues to attract incredible staff talent. Please join me in welcoming Pauly Rodney as our Vice President of Strategic Partnerships. He previously worked at Universal McCann, an advertising agency, as Chief of Staff to the CEO. He has also worked in politics, public policy, and sports. Our previous Vice President of Strategic Partnerships, Venessa Mendenhall, had been serving as the interim Vice President of the Fellows Program while we conducted a national search. We are happy to announce that we discovered that Venessa is the best person in the entire country to continue the outstanding growth of the Fellows Program. So we took the "interim" out of her title! We are always looking to engage our community and this newsletter details some more ways that you can get involved. We will have a clothing drive for our Fellows on Saturday, March 24 and would appreciate donations for the event. Our Young Leadership Board hosts its Annual Spring Fundraiser and Auction on April 12 and tickets are on sale now! We also have an exciting opportunity for the ING New York City Marathon in November as NYNY Founder Robert Reffkin completes his modest goal of running his 50th marathon in his 50th state to raise more than $1 million for nonprofits that increase opportunities for ambitious students. NYNY will have a team, and we have one slot open for a runner who can commit to fundraising $10,000. We hope that you will consider joining us for these events. We appreciate your support! Sincerely,
PJ Kim Chief Executive OfficerNew York Needs You |

Credit Suisse Supports NYNY!
|
|
NYNY is pleased to celebrate the remarkable support of partner Credit Suisse. Credit Suisse hosted NYNY's February workshop, providing free space and food for more than 350 Fellows, Mentor Coaches, and guests. Credit Suisse has also honored the volunteer commitment of Alexis Maule, Mentor Leadership Council co-chair and 2010 Mentor Coach, and the potential of NYNY Fellows through generous financial contributions in both 2011 and 2012. NYNY is grateful for Credit Suisse's engagement and support, and looks forward to working with Credit Suisse as a proud partner in the coming months and years.

Run the NYC Marathon to Support NYNY!
|
NYNY is fielding a team of runners for the ING New York City Marathon on November 4th, 2012! We have one slot left. We ask that each runner commit to raising $10,000 through his or her network. This will be combined with a network-wide viral fund raising effort - stayed tuned for the launch of the NYNY page on Crowdrise! Thank you to Melissa Kinckle, Josh Weissenstein, Keith Putnam-Delaney and Nasir Qadree for already stepping up! This will be the 50th and final marathon for NYNY Founder Robert Reffkin in his five-year effort to run a marathon in every state to raise $1,000,000 for organizations that provide support and resources to help students achieve their goals - and of course, NYNY has been the biggest beneficiary of this effort. Go to www.runningtosupportyoungdreams.com to check out his video and help Robert reach this ambitious goal. We plan to line the marathon route with NYNY fans to cheer the team on! To learn more and sign-up, please email Mason Beard, Vice President for Growth Strategy at mason.beard@newyorkneedsyou.org.
