Mentor Spotlight
'Iolani

'Iolani Lightbourne is a 2011 Mentor Coach and has been instrumental in helping NYNY recruit a new class of outstanding Mentor Coaches for our 2012 class.  We would like to congratulate 'Iolani on her new position as a Diversity Campus Recruiter at Morgan Stanley and thank her for helping NYNY organize an information session at Morgan Stanley to recruit new volunteers.  The turnout was wonderful and 'Iolani spoke to the audience about her experience with NYNY and her mentoring relationship with her Fellow, Ama.  We would like to thank 'Iolani for her continued support!

Dear friends of NYNY,

Our application for the 2012 class of Fellows and Mentor Coaches is live! The Fellows application is due March 15 and the Mentor Coach application is due March 31. Please apply and encourage those in your networks to do so as well; we want to build an amazing class and we need your help! In the next few weeks we will host recruiting events to introduce more people to NYNY.

The next few months will also be extremely busy for us as we prepare our current Fellows for internships and summer placements. Thank you to our partners who have helped us by hosting our Fellows at job shadowing days! This exposure to different industries greatly benefits our Fellows and gives them more options as they plan their professional path. We appreciate your willingness to be there for our Fellows and provide them these unique opportunities to learn.

Please join me in welcoming our newest staff member, Bryan Reid! Bryan joins us as the Internship and Volunteer Coordinator for the Strategic Partnerships team. Bryan was most recently with Teach for America's Alumni Affairs team. At NYNY, Bryan supports the Strategic Partnerships team by helping Fellows to fulfill their internship requirements and facilitating communication with Mentor Coaches and Volunteers.

We're also excited to have interns on board with our Programs, Strategic Partnerships, and Growth Strategy departments: Natasha Campos, Emmett Mehan, Katherine Taketomo and Karle Scroggins! We know that this will be a great learning experience for them and we're happy to have them on the NYNY team.

These additions to our internal staff capacity will allow us to do even more with the tremendous energy that all of you bring to our shared mission. Thank you all for staying engaged with us as we build and grow!

Sincerely,

PJ Kim

NYNY Celebrates Innovative Partnership with iMentor!
As a leading nonprofit partner with NYNY, iMentor is working with NYNY to identify potential Fellow applicants and is sharing exciting internship opportunities with the current Fellow classes. iMentor's collegial and collaborative staff has gone even further - organizing peer trainings to share best practices in volunteer engagement, corporate partnership development, and match support. NYNY and iMentor are also referring potential volunteers to one another, when the other program might offer a better volunteer experience based on an individual's schedule or interests. This type of collaboration strengthens both organizations, and the NYC nonprofit sector as a whole. Alongside iMentor, NYNY is looking forward to an incredible year of partnerships in 2012!
