Mentor Spotlight
 Erin
Erin Patten

We are happy this month to recognize Erin Patten for her dedication and contributions to NYNY. Erin is a Mentor Coach from our inaugural 2010 class and also serves as Vice Chair of the Mentor Leadership Council (MLC). Erin has been instrumental in implementing volunteer engagement activities and organizing events for Fellows, such as this year's hugely successful clothing drive. We're sad to announce that Erin will be leaving New York, but we are excited for her as she embarks on the next stage of her career focusing on her start up and spending time in both Texas and Brazil.  Fortunately, Erin will continue to serve on the MLC and will travel to New York for workshops as her schedule permits.  We are lucky to have volunteers like Erin in our network and wish her only the best of luck in all her future endeavors.

About NYNY, Erin says: "I have made lifelong friends and built lasting relationship with volunteers, staff, and fellows since joining the organization. NYNY has become my extended family and I plan to remain involved as the organization continues to grow."

Thank you, Erin, from all of us at New York Needs You!

2011: Year in Review!

Join Our Mailing List
Dear friends of NYNY,

What a year for New York Needs You! We've added more Fellows, more Mentor Coaches and volunteers and you all have given us more resources to support the program. We've added staff across Operations and Programs, and developed our Strategic Partnerships and Community College Initiative teams. And thanks to word-of-mouth and all of you serving as such effective ambassadors for NYNY, the rest of the world is taking notice! NYNY is increasingly asked to share our insights with local and national partners and we are emerging as a thought leader and innovator in our field. Thank you! Our impact and growth is a direct result of your belief in our mission and willingness to give back. Here's what we've done together:

  • 2010 Fellows completed Year 1 of the Fellows Program and transitioned to Year 2 and are racking up internships and honors
  • 2011 Fellows are in the midst of Year 1 and showing impressive progress and momentum to secure and be successful in internships
  • Multiple Fellows who started in community colleges have been accepted into 4-year colleges and universities including New York University, Columbia University, Baruch College, StonyBrook University, Brooklyn College, Niagara University, and many others
  • Executed a successful Interview Day for 2010 Fellows, with participation from Chanel, Macy's, UBS, Edison Learning, Skadden, Jujamcyn Theaters, and the Clinton Foundation
  • Established the Mentor Leadership Council (MLC), who organized two successful clothing drives, with the total value of donations totaling more than $10,000
  • The Young Leadership Board (YLB) hosted another successful YLB Spring Fundraiser and Party
  • Honored Merryl Tisch, Ken Chenault and Daryl Roth at 2011 Benefit Dinner, raising $1.6 million

In order to continue this high level of impact, we ask that you continue to invest in us. As part of your holiday giving, we hope you will consider making a donation to New York Needs You this season! Gifts of any amount can make a big impact, but please consider becoming a member of the 101% Society or supporting a Fellow for one year of the program with a $2,000 donation. We also hope you will share your inspiring experiences with NYNY as you gather with friends and family in the coming weeks and help us to spread the word. Your support, ideas, time and introductions make it all possible and will make 2012 another exciting year for NYNY!

Sincerely,

PJ Kim
