A REMINDER THAT...

Wholly Macro will be closing for three weeks.

 WE WILL BE CLOSED JULY 11, 18, and 25.

We will re-open the week of August 1, and will send that menu out on July 28.

If you need to reach us during that time, or need anything at all, please contact our assistant Annette at 954 214-5403. She will be happy to help you.

 
   As always, and especially for anyone new to the Wholly Macro Delivery world, we encourage you to order extra food, to freeze for use while we are closed. All of our menus are surprisingly freezer friendly, and are just perfect for ordering extra food to freeze from while we are closed.

Summer solstice has occurred.

Summer is officially upon us, and we are in the thick of it in many parts of the planet!

In traditional oriental medicine summer is associated with the heart (and small intestines), and the element fire.


You may notice that many people suffer from heart related conditions during the summer. Imbalance within the heart and small intestines manifests more predominantly during this season.

Heart ~ Fire energy helps us to see clearly, to understand, and to be compassionate. The small intestine supports this by sorting out and extracting the good from what we ingest.

Think of this team of organs as the separators of the pure from the impure, bringing forth light and heat, helping our own bodies to regulate body temperature and manage and maintain heat, while also giving warmth to others.

The ability to make the sound of laughter comes from the heart element.   

During this season it is especially important to be aware of and take good care of your heart.
We have a few heartfelt ideas to assist you in getting through this season in the best of heart health.

*    Exercise every day. Intentional exercise is great, but spontaneous exercise, done during the course of your regular daily activities works too. Anything is better than absolutely nothing! Housework counts!! Park a little further from your destination and enjoy a little walk. SWIM!! Most importantly, forgive yourself for not being on a perfect workout schedule and just do the best that you can.

*    Be kind to yourself. Kindness and compassion nurture the heart. They are feel good medicine. Whenever you find yourself berating yourself, simply STOP. Turn it around immediately. If you find yourself thinking a negative thought, practice changing it to a positive.

*    Nurture friendship, and learn to be your own best friend, because if you don't know this already, you need to: You truly are your own very best friend. Treat yourself well, the way you want others to treat you, and the kind way that you treat others. Love everyone and everything the best that you possibly can.

*    Practice gratitude. Each and every day. Always confirm / reaffirm all that you are grateful for in your life. Focus on that and let the negatives drop away.

*    Eat healthy, seasonal, fresh, organic, REAL food. Try to eliminate all refined, packaged, processed foods from your life. Organic products are actually denser, and weigh more, than those that are commercially grown. You won't need to, or even be able to eat as much real food in order to feel full, SO:

*    Stop worrying about your weight! Don't judge yourself. Just become more active, and eat as well as you can. When you are ready to love yourself for who you are, and make these sort of heart healthy changes, your body will follow your true hearts desire. Visualize the self you want to be.

*    Use real sea salt. Most salt sold in grocery stores, and used in packaged foods and restaurants is demineralized, bleached, chemically treated, lifeless, and used in tremendous excess. Commercial salt, used in excess, is bad for your heart and also your kidneys. Treat yourself to mineral rich tasty authentic sea salt and only use it in your cooking. No more salt shakers at the table. Real sea salt won't pour out of a salt shaker anyway; it is too moist and dense. And real sea salt, cooked into your food properly, and in the proper quantity, actually strengthens and supports your heart (and kidneys).

*    If you smoke, stop! Your risk of heart disease drops dramatically when you quit. No matter how long or how much you smoke, you can quit. You will reap the rewards immediately.

*    Laugh Out Loud ~ (LOL), and as often as you can. Treat yourself to the luxury of pure enjoyment. It will do your heart good!
Perhaps you can think of even more heart healthy ideas that would work well for you. We know that we can. The more you can do to support your heart, this and at all times of the year, the better. The idea is to enjoy and embrace all of the seasons. Just as we should not suffer due to the cold of winter, we also should not suffer from the heat of summer.

We here at Wholly Macro feel that the best way to appreciate each and every season of the year in the best of health is to take full advantage of the wisdom of Mother Nature and her seasonal bounty.

Eating in harmony with the seasons is essential to
 living in harmony with them.

WHITE BEAN AND ARUGULA MISO SOUP                                                 SMALL___ LARGE___
Nice and light, yet high in protein and substantially filling white beans, are cooked with digestion promoting and mineral rich kombu sea vegetable, and a fresh and colorful array of vegetables: bright orange beta carotene rich carrots, naturally diuretic celery, flavorful yellow onions, the unique flavor and crunch of fresh fennel, the vitalizing energy of fresh green leek, cleansing and relaxing shiitake mushrooms, wakame sea vegetable, enzyme rich yellow miso, lots of iron rich good for the heart and liver bitter green arugula, and a garnish of deep purple equally iron rich dulse sea vegetable.

BROWN RICE, WHOLE BARLEY, AND FRESH GOMASHIO                         SMALL___ LARGE___
Balanced and nutritious medium grain brown rice, is cooked with whole barley, a whole grain valued in the orient for its ability to cleanse the skin, the blood, and the liver. An excellent grain for "spring cleaning" the body! Powerfully mineralized kombu sea vegetable, omega fatty acid rich toasted pumpkin seeds, good for the stomach and pancreas sweet yellow onions, high in calcium cell cleansing fresh sesame gomashio, and plenty of chlorophyll rich fresh green parsley complete the dish.

BAKED TOFU WITH KOMBU LEEK SAUCE                                                SMALL___ LARGE___
Delicious high protein, low fat pieces of tofu, are baked to nice brown flavorful perfection, then draped with a sauce of brightly saut�ed liver cleansing leek, slivers of naturally chelating kombu sea vegetable, good for the stomach and pancreas yellow onions and green cabbage, and circulation stimulating fresh ginger cooked in their natural juices, then thickened with digestion and intestine strengthening, alkalizing kuzu root.

BUCKWHEAT AND BOWTIES                                                                    SMALL___ LARGE___
Whole buckwheat groats, known for their strengthening quality, are tossed with light, nutritious, and fun to eat brown rice bowtie noodles, sauteed shiitake and cremini mushrooms and yellow onions, fresh, alkalizing and digestion promoting umeboshi plum marinated red radishes, intestinal bacteria friendly pickled cucumbers, vitamin E rich toasted sunflower seeds, and lots of fresh green chlorophyll rich parsley.

VEGETABLE SPRING ROLLS WITH UMEBOSHI GINGER GLAZE              SMALL ___LARGE___
Chinese cabbage, green cabbage, red cabbage, carrots, yellow onions, and celery, are stir fried with circulation promoting fresh ginger root, then further livened up with enzyme rich fresh bean sprouts, wrapped in sprouted wheat berry pastries, and glazed with a tart and alkalizing umeboshi plum, sweet and satisfying brown rice syrup, mustard, and shoyu glaze, to create the delicious and healthy non-fried Wholly Macro signature spring roll. Finished with fresh chives.

CARROT CAKE WITH (TOFU) CREAM CREAMCHEESE ICING                   SMALL___ LARGE___
Whole wheat pastry flour, vitamin E and omega fatty acid rich sunflower oil, and the gentle sweetness of brown rice syrup form the base of this lovely and seasonal cake that is laced throughout with beta carotene rich flecks of bright orange carrots, moist and rich pieces of shredded coconut, calcium rich slivers of fresh almonds, iron rich currants, delicious carob chip morsels, and subtle nuances of nutmeg and cinnamon, all topped with a thick and delicious agar agar mineral rich sea vegetable based tofu cream cheese icing.

Most foods used in the Wholly Macro kitchen are not packaged, but instead are bought in the produce section or in bulk. But as you know, cross contamination is always a possibility, especially with bulk items. And in the few packaged foods that we do use, such as nut butters for example, it is common to find warnings on the manufacturer label stating that the item was processed in a plant that handles tree nuts, soy, wheat, dairy, gluten, shellfish, and so on.  

 

Wholly Macro cannot be responsible for trace amounts of common food allergens that come from outside (packaged  or bulk items), and therefore end up occurring within our prepared foods. Please use your own discretion in determining if our food is appropriate for your consumption, especially if you have severe food allergies.

 

We are always available to clarify any of the ingredients that we use, and assist you in your weekly selections, but we cannot keep track of your food allergies, sensitivities, likes, dislikes or preferences.
