Greetings!
Welcome to STEP INTO YOUR LIFE!
This month I am exploring the idea that everyone can benefit from having a master plan. It's worth the time and effort.
As I head to Maine for a week of much needed R & R, I plan to revisit my master plan and outline some of the goals I plan to achieve this fall.
Feel free to share this newsletter with anyone, to email me with
comments or to write a little inspiring thought of your own. I'd be
happy to include it in future newsletters!Enjoy,
Monica

Quote of the Month
So many dreams at first seem impossible. And then they seem improbable. And then when we summon the will, they soon become inevitable.

I heard Mayor Bill Finch of Bridgeport, CT on a local radio station recently. He was talking about the Master Plan for the city, the vision, the big picture for what the city should look like and offer its constituents. It is something the town council, planning and zoning, and every other commission and department can refer to in order to create plans and set them in motion. Mayor Finch used a great metaphor, "It's like writing the menu and setting the table. Then we can invite people to come and eat."
Have you written your menu and set the table for your life? Who do you want to invite into your life?
Whether you are in high school, retired, or somewhere in between, if you don't have a plan, how will you mold your life to suit you?
I see master planning as a cycle. It begins with dreaming. Without dreams, we don't have a direction for where we want to go with our lives. From dreams we formulate our master plan, maybe a 5 or 1-year plan to start, then break it down into specific goals and actions. As we go through life, our dreams may change or evolve and so will our goals and actions. That is why I think of it as an ever-evolving cycle. Without taking the time to create the plan and then revisit it every once in a while, you can waste a lot of time pursuing the wrong dreams or just going through the motions of life.
The full cycle of dream to plan to goal to action can take weeks or years. The speed depends on so many variables. Thinking about a few of those variables you would have to include: belief in your dreams, commitment to the plan, willingness to step out of your comfort zone, and a strong support system that will help you along the way. There will also be outside forces that influence or impede your progress. How you react to those forces can make the difference between success and failure. In addition, that inner gremlin voice is constantly talking in your ear and keeping you in the status quo- so beware, and drown him or her out with a positive outlook!
Keeping all that in mind, what is the difference between the "successful" people and the average Joe? We can say they had more advantages in life but in many cases that theory is false. The story of Rags to Riches happens all the time. So what IS the difference? Confidence, perseverance, and most decidedly having a master plan are part of the picture. What plan do you have for your life? What dreams do you want to pursue? If you've never thought about these questions before, take the time now. Once you explore your options, you will feel a new sense of purpose for your life.
I hope each of you is ready to take the time to create your master plan. If you need any help, your life coach can be there for you every step of the way. So give me a call!

Suggested reading:
Book: Motherhood to Otherhood, by Julia Roberts (not the actress). The book has great activities that build on the idea that you are concentrating on an Unpregnancy to give birth to a new you in 40 weeks. Great book if you are a Mom, some of the metaphors would be lost otherwise, but the concepts are still great. I've been using this book as a template for how I want my life to be 7 months from now- my due date is St. Patrick's Day (3/17 for those of of you who are not Irish). I have a personal goal, a relationship goal and a career goal. I've analyzed what's important to me, how I use my time and so much more. For you guys and non-moms out there, buy it for a mom and then borrow it! Available on Amazon.com
Lene suggests to read: Feel the Fear and Do It Anyway,
by Susan Jeffers. "I really recommend that you read it as it's a great
complement to what we know and I find it very useful!"
