Pilates Mini Conference at Purely Pilates - Bob LiekensAugust/2010
Greetings!

Bob2Purely Pilates is running our first mini conference with Power PIlates in two weeks. All of the classes and seminars are open to regular clients as well as teachers ad potential teachers.  Bob Liekens, who we have been luck to host many times, will be in town and will be teaching seminars, mat classes, and semi privates on August 27 & 28! We are also offering a Basics of Anatomy taught by Krisna Hanks of East Bay Pilates. This class is a prerequisite for all Power Pilates teacher training programs. And Allison Gonzalez will teach a seminar on Mat with weights. This is a great opportunity to spend time with Master teacher, Bob, get continuing education credits for Power Pilates and PMA and give back to yourself as well. Get some inspiration!

About Bob Liekens!

Bob L.Bob Liekens, originally from Belgium, traveled to New York City in 1983 to further explore his dance career. That same year, he started his pilates training at The Pilates Studio. Fascinated by the Graham technique, he initially pursued studies at the Graham Center for Contemporary Dance. In 1991, he became one of the first certified teachers in the technique. Subsequently, he taught for two years at the school.
In 1986 Romana Kryzanowska invited him to teach the pilates method. Starting in 1993, he has been instrumental in building her teacher-trainer certification program. He co-created the training manual and originated the current exam system. For several years now, Bob has been invited, both nationally and internationally, to conduct teacher-training seminars, workshops, and continuing education programs.
In September, 2000 he became a director at Power Pilates and is an integral part of the Power Pilates Teacher Training Certification Programs. Bob also practices yoga and in 1999 became a certified yoga teacher.

Bob has been with us before both teaching at the studio and attending art classes at a local art academy in Belmont!

Super Advanced Exercises On The Cadillac 2-5 PM
As with the Reformer, we know, practice and teach it on a regular basis is a familiar message. Was that everything Uncle Joe ever created for the Cadillac? No, there is more. We will explore the "next steps" for your intermediate to advanced level clientele and review what is known as the super/advanced level exercises on the Cadillac! 3 PP CEC's
Prerequisite: Intermediate level teaching experience on the Cadillac.

Saturday, August 28, 2010

Advanced Mat 10 am Taught by Bob Leikens
(Available first come first serve for those taking seminars.)

Barrel Progressions 12-2 PM Taught by Bob Leikens
Joseph Pilates created a beautiful progression on an often-overlooked piece of equipment, the Barrel. Wipe the dust off your Barrel and remember what a great piece of equipment it can be! The Barrel allows access to gradually open two very restricted areas of our body, the hips and shoulders. We will work through this progression from the Small Barrel up to the Ladder Barrel in such a way that it becomes easier to incorporate the Barrels into almost every workout. 2 PP CEC's
Prerequisite: Beginner and intermediate mat teaching experience.

Mat with Weights 12-2 PM Taught by Allison Gonzalez
Spice up your mat class by adding hand and ankle weights to the exercises of the classical intermediate mat. This seminar will review how to safely add weights to many of the exercises to add a challenge to your class. Be prepared to move!
Prerequisite: Open to all with mat teaching experience

Art of Verbal Cueing 2:30-4:30 PM taught by Bob Leikens
We, as instructors, sometimes question if we are telling the student too much or too little. Have you ever wondered, "Why do I feel I am talking/teaching so much and my client still isn't getting it?" During this workshop, we will look at appropriate cueing - verbal, as well as tactile. We will also discuss how to efficiently convey the wealth of information without flooding the client. Our philosophy has always been "appropriate cueing at the appropriate time."
Prerequisite: Mat and/or apparatus teaching experience.

Basics of Anatomy 2:30-4:30 PM taught byKrisna Hanks
This is a study of basic anatomical language, which contains an introduction to planes of movement and major concepts of the skeletal and muscular systems. The course includes an outline, literature and hands on experience.
Prerequisite: Ideal for instructors and clients who have minimal or no previous anatomical knowledge. Bring your Anatomy of Movement book. This course is a prerequisite for all Power Pilates apparatus programs (unless you can provide proof of attendance in a course within the last five years).
Please give me a call or email to discuss your questions or to get help with signing up for a seminar. . I'd love to meet with you to go over all of the prerequisites and go over the registration process.

Our next Power Pilates Teacher Trainings will start in the fall, 2010. If you know anyone interested in becoming a Power Pilates teacher, please send this along to them and send me their information too so that I can contact them!

Hope to see you soon for this great weekend of Pilates continuing Education with Bob!
