Le Jardinet Newsletter

 Special edition! Late June 2009
My newsletter has a new look and I couldn't wait until July 1st to show you; tell me what you think. The inspiration came from a client who asked me to include pictures of my work so I decided to take it a step further. My aim as always is to inspire, encourage and educate.

I hope you find these tips helpful and of interest whether I have planted container gardens for you, prepared landscape designs, offered landscape consultations or just enjoyed your friendship and appreciated your encouragement.

Container care
Lee foliage
As the weather gets warmer your container gardens will need a little extra TLC. Remember to check the soil  daily and water when the top inch or two is dry. Also cut off spent flowers to encourage further blooms and check the soil surface for decaying flowers and leaves which should be removed promptly.

Keep the slug bait (Sluggo or Sluggo Plus) handy and squish or spray aphids (Take Down by Monterey is my preference for aphid control and available to Molbaks).

Editing; don't be afraid to remove a few leaves if they are getting in the way of flowers! I often remove a few geranium leaves for example as they can overwhelm the container and hide more delicate flowers from view. As the designs mature you may need to continue to do this.

Have you noticed how the garden can look lovely in May but totally drab by July and August? Many of you have said how helpful it has been to have me come and troubleshoot problems like this in your gardens. I know from experience how difficult it can be to look objectively at your own garden. We become so familiar with it that our vision seems to get distorted!! I love to come and share ideas, suggest solutions and simply 'talk gardens' so please call 425 765 3574 or email me if you would like to get together or for further information.

Even if you don't live in Kirkland, many of you live within a short distance of the City so it may still be helpful to find the products and services you require such as a plumber, electrician....or container garden designer!

Custom woodwork
gate and arbor
My husband Andy is a skilled woodworker as many of you know and has always built whatever archways, arbors, pergolas and gates I deemed necessary for our garden!

Le Jardinet has applied for a contractor's license to become fully bonded, licensed and insured as required by state law. This allows us to now include this specialty within Le Jardinet and gives you peace of mind.

Andy will still be working full time in his IT position but we are delighted to be able to offer you his skills as time allows.

This service will be invaluable for those of you who need non-standard sized arbors, planters or trellises not otherwise available. He can work from your ideas or together the three of us can design something to suit your home and purpose.

Email Andy to discuss your needs and make an appointment for a free estimate.
