Dear Friends,
Here's a quick update on what's been happening on campus this spring, and how you can continue to pray for us and the students at Christopher Newport!

Chapter Retreat - The Best Stuff We Do All Year

If someone were to ask me what is the single most important event that we do all year I would have toTriple R answer, "Chapter Retreat."

Last month we took 106 CNU students to Triple-R-Ranch in Chesapeake for our annual Chapter Retreat.  The title of this year's retreat was "Overdressed"-a reference to the shabby fig-leaf coverings that Adam and Eve produced for themselves after they rebelled against their Creator and realized they were naked.

We spent the weekend in Genesis 1-3, learning what the Bible teaches about the goodness of God's original design and creation, the beauty of the relationship that the man and woman shared, the destruction that they brought on all of creation in their rebellion, and most importantly, the infinite mercies of the God who purposed to redeem us by grace, and who set in motion a plan to fix everything we messed up.

We were very pleased to see two students put their trust in Christ for the first time at this retreat!

Girls at retreatOn Saturday night after I shared a brief description of the gospel message in the middle of our time of singing, she and 2 friends came to the back to pray.  This fearfully excited woman said "I'm sick and tired of people telling me what they want me to believe.  This is what I believe, and I no longer care what it will cost.  It's like God is drawing me to himself and I can't run away any longer.  I want to be a Christian!"

These are the moments for which we do our job.  Thank you for your prayers and your financial support that help make all this possible!

Family News & Prayers
Julian big smile

Julian is now 13 months old and continues to be one of the greatest joys in our life.  He is very vocal and mobile, and has expanded his vocabulary to include "night night", "ball", and "keys".

We ask for your prayers for health and rest for our family.  All 3 of us were very sick over Christmas break in December and again over Spring break this past week. So, it seems each break has not been as restful as we hoped.  We continue to put our hope in the Lord to revive us again and again as we finish out this school year.

Please pray for us & our students:

  • Eric & Beth togetherAs we begin leadership selection for the 2012-2013 school year.  We will be meeting with our Vision team multiple times in the next few weeks to make placement decisions about those who have applied to be student leaders with InterVarsity.
  • For graduating seniors, that they would trust the Lord during a season of transition.
  • As we head up to Rockbridge Alum Springs camp in Goshen, VA without about 70 of our students, May 6-11, 2012.  We will actually be at camp for 2 full weeks as a family (yes, all of us, even Julian!) so please pray again for health and patience as we travel for such an extended period of time.
  • For the students who have become believers this semester, that they would "be rooted and established in love" and would "know the love that surpasses knowledge" as Paul talks about in Ephesians 3:17.

Rockbridge Dining Hall
We are in great need of scholarship money to help students get to Rockbridge this year.

If you are an alum, you know how much going to camp can change a student's walk with Christ and help them feel like a part of the community.

Would you consider sponsoring a student in one of these gifts?
