Dear Friends,
We're gearing up for the new school year already! It may still feel like summer, but in a few short weeks another new class of freshman will be packed up and headed to CNU. Join us in praying for them as they bring their books, bean bag chairs and lots of questions about Christ. Read on to hear about the good work God has done in many lives since May.
In Christ, Eric & Beth Gambardella |

Senior Joe Wilbur sports his cap at our last large group of 09-10. | Rockbridge - beginnings & endings
Saying Goodbye is Always So Hard
This year we graduated about 40 seniors, many of whom were involved with InterVarsity their entire 4 (or longer...) years at CNU. Sometimes having a larger chapter can be quite difficult to manage, but sometimes it proves advantageous. We weren't planning on hosting the Life After College Track at camp this year because the week CNU was going was a very small week, and we wouldn't have enough staff to run all of the tracks. Well, when our enormous class of seniors heard this, they were outraged (mildly). When we told our supervisors that we had 20 students who would definitely sign up for the track from CNU alone, they opened up the track! A small group of CNU seniors with Life After College track director Terri Shell |
It will be sad to see them go, especially since they were the first class of students that we've staffed for all 4 years, but we were delighted that so many of them were desperate to go to Rockbridge to receive the training and encouragement from a track aimed at transitioning them into graduate life, spurring them to a life of whole-life stewardship.
You Say Goodbye, I Say Hello
As the class of 2010 departs, we prayerfully anticipate the arrival of the class of 2014. Part of the preparations for the new year involved the 6 student leaders who were part of the Coordinating Teams Track at Rockbridge. Eric & Beth with the Vteam for 2010-2011 |
In this track, our "Vision Team," consisting of our Men's & Women's Small Group Coordinators, Worship Team Leader, Large Group Coordinator, Events Coordinator, and our Prayer & Hospitality Coordinator spent the week learning about having a vision for our chapter and the campus, setting goals, and planning steps. More importantly these students spent time praying to hear what God's vision is for their lives and for the campus, and asking him to do the work in people's hearts that we will never have the power to do. All real ministry begins and ends in prayer, because the start and finish of any good thing has its source in God.
Would you pray with us that we would be successful as we endeavor to provide a place of fellowship and outreach at CNU, that we would not only bless our chapter, but the entire campus (and maybe even the city of Newport News)!

The moment we've all been waiting for...
Well...we have big news! We're pregnant! We are very excited to announce that we are expecting our first child, due in late February.
Obviously this is both an incredible praise and an incredible request for prayer, for our hearts to trust God, for the baby to be healthy, and for Beth as she has been very ill so far and could really use your prayers.

The year of the Lord's provisionThanks for partnering with us! |
In the past, most of our letters have followed this pattern: "God is doing amazing things on campus, but we are in serious need of thousands of dollars in funding. For the first time we are delighted to tell you that we finished this fiscal year in the black, myself being paid for 40 hours a week, and Beth at 20 hours per week.
Many of you ask, "Does this mean you are fully funded?" For the past year, yes! For upcoming years, we are in a great place, and will continue raising new support for future raises, and to address the increase in our health insurance in light of having a child. Rejoice with us, please! God has (THROUGH YOU!!) provided for our needs! We are thankful to God, and to his people who have sacrificed for the students' sake.
|
Prayer Requests & Praises
1. Praise God for the blessing of a child, and ask that he would grant health to both mom and baby as we enter a busy season.
2. Ask the Lord to energize and motivate our student leaders as they prepare to reach out to incoming freshman.
3. Pray that God would put new students in our path who will hear and respond to the Gospel!
4. Ask the Lord to guide the InterVarsity staff in Eastern VA as we gather for fellowship and planning August 1-4.

Supreme Court Decision
Please pray for us and other evangelical campus ministries (RUF, Campus Crusade, Navigators) on public universities nationwide in the wake of an unfortunate Supreme Court decision (Christian Legal Society v. Martinez).
For more information go to: "Court Limits Campus Ministry" - InterVarsity.org "Evangelical Groups Are Out" - Christian Post This could have negative ramifications for all of us, pray for this to be overturned, and until then, for boldness and perseverance in the face of what could be difficult times for many of us.
