January Happenings



Have you made your New Year's Resolution? We hope it includes regular visits to The Chatham Club in 2012. To help you keep your resolve, we're adding six new classes to our weekly group exercise schedule, with new yoga and Pilates series starting in January and three more weekend spin classes.


Whether you're heading to the slopes to enjoy freshly fallen snow, or just shoveling it off your driveway, our personal trainers are here to work with you on staying fit and injury free this winter. It's party time!  

A great dip will help get your party off to a cheery start.


For impressive and satisfying nibbles that are sure to be a hit at even the most discerning celebration, try one of our 17 delicious dip recipes.


We'll start you off with Caramelized Onion, Gruyère, and Bacon Spread. Serve with crackers or bread slices. Or perhaps you would prefer our Cajun Hot Crab Dip, Baked Feta with Romesco & Olive Tapenade or a Edamame Dip.   

Did You Know... 


Our Nursery Policy Has Changed 



Previously, when the Chatham school system declared a delayed opening or school closing due to inclement weather our nurseries were closed.


After careful consideration we have reevaluated our policy. Going forward, in the event of a delayed opening within the Chatham school system our nurseries will open at 10:30am. 


Again this year in the months January - April we will extend our Sunday nursery hours by a half an hour closing at 12:30pm rather than 12:00pm.The half an hour extension provides our members the opportunity to participate in the late morning Spin class.

Getting Ready for Ski Season

With the winter season upon us our focus shifts to outdoor activities that are associated with this time of year.  Many will take to the slopes and enjoy some downhill runs on their skies or snowboards. 


To ensure that you are prepared for these activities, or to at least prevent any potential injuries, the right workouts and exercises can make a big difference. When designing a workout specific to the demands of skiing you should consider adding aerobic conditioning, plyometrics, core and flexibility training to your program. Continue reading to learn how to incorporate these movements into your workout.

Intro to Spinning
with Kelly
Sundays 10:30 - 11:00am
beginning January 8, 2012
Turn your fear of spinning into a fun, calorie burning, motivating workout! Spinning is not really as scary as it seems. It's actually a great workout. With an instructor to keep you motivated and music to set your pace, spinning is a fun and challenging workout in which you can burn up to 500 calories in a 45-minute ride. Learn the correct way to set up your bike, hand positons, core movements and termonology in our Intro to Spinning class.
Power Spin
with Kelly
Sundays 11:30 - 12:15pm
begins January 1, 2012
As the name implies, this class is a full body cardio experience for intermediate to advanced spinners. Power Spin uses the basic riding format with the added feature of using 1 or 2lb weights for an additional upper body workout. Please be aware this room gets very warm!

Saturdays 10:30 - 11:15am
begins January 7, 2012


An indoor cycling class that will increase your stamina and conditioning. This non-impact, individually paced, cardio class will definitely move you!
Spinning Policies
Signing up for a weekend class is highly recommended. Failure to cancel a reservation will result in loss of reservation privileges. First time students must arrive at least 10 minutes early. Late arrival to class will result in loss of spot, regardless if your name is on the sign up sheet. Water and a towel are a must. Use of a heart rate monitor is highly recommended. Guests of members and staff may not sign up for a class, if however, a bike is available at the beginning of class they are welcome to set it up. Bikes may not be "held" or set up for another person.

Lauren was 12 years old when she was introduced to squash through a clinic with Mark Talbott at The Chatham Club. She has gone on to play for and graduate from Yale University. Lauren has pursured her passion for the sport and is currently the Squash Professional at the Yale Club, NYC,

In her own words:

Geoff Mitchell at The Chatham Club was Lauren's first teacher. "He instilled in me a passion for the game of squash and the importance of good sportsmanship at all times. His patience, great attitude and mentorship make him a natural working with kids and gave me a life-passion for the sport."  Throughout her coaching career, Lauren's objective has always been to do her best to encourage her students to feel about squash as she does.

U.S. Open Junior Squash Tournament
Harvard University, Boston MA
Congratulations to all of our Juniors who competed in the U.S. Open tournament. 
We are extremely proud of our 16 players who competed in this event. Their sportsmanship and level of play was outstanding.
This year Harvard University hosted the largest U.S. Open tournament to date.
There were more than 750 registered players from 20 different countries in attendance.
