Greetings Friends!

Welcome to our first US & UK Newsletter.  I'm just back from my visit to England, Scotland and Ireland and thought you might like to meet some of the great people I have the honor and privilege to work with.  This last trip I had the good luck to demonstrate my work to 2 top GP riders in Ireland, Geoff Curran (Eventer) and Paul O'Shea (Show Jumper)!  I also filmed a lesson for Horse Hero with Hannah Biggs, British GP rider if you haven't had the chance to see the video just click here  Horse Hero and have a look.  It would be great if you left a comment too!

I am also continuing the  "MEET . . . .  " section of the newsletter that introduces you to some of the amazing horse/rider trainers I work with that have incorporated my work into their own.  This time you get to meet Dr. Susan Connors of Washington State with whom I have been working for 12 years.

James Shaw Healing Arts also participated in an AWESOME, MAGICAL, UNBELIEVABLE Healing Retreat in Yorkshire organized and hosted by Rachel Beddingfield, read more below!

We are offering a special discount ONLY to our Newsletter recipients for our Intensive Training Retreats this year for the first time, see below.  Come live and train with us for 3 or 5 days this winter in sunny Arizona, USA.  There are only 5 dates available, and remember there is a limit of 2 people training per session.

I hope your Summer was bright and joyful and you had plenty of time for riding!  I learned so much teaching this summer, I can't wait to share it with all of you.  See you soon.

Cheers!

James

Cheers to . . . Rachel Beddingfield Masham, Yorkshire, UK

Our Amazing Organizer, Equine Nuturition Expert, Corporate Management Trainer, Expert in the Agricultural Industry, Horse Trainer and Rabid (in a good way ) Horse Lover!

Rachel on Horse If you have inquired about or attended one of our clinics in England or Scotland, chances are you have spoken with, emailed and/or met Rachel.  She handles all the details of who, what, when, where and how with great success, style and grace under fire.  We thought you'd like to learn a little more about her.  She founded the Natural Horse Group in 2001, she has organized clinics in Yorkshire for many of the best horse trainers in the world--Mark Rashid, Marthe Kiley-Worthington, Lucy Rees, Monty Roberts, Leslie Desmond and others.  In 2006 she began Clicker Training with Alex Kurland and teaches Clicker Training in the Equine and Coporate sectors.  Rachel has worked with James since 2006 and has graciously opened her and Willie's beautiful home and grounds to James and his family.  She also hosts several of his clinics at her facility annually.

Always Something New!

This summer Rachel envisioned, developed, marketed and hosted a very successful Healing Retreat (more on that later!) in Yorkshire, featuring James Shaw, Maggie Roux and Mary Trost and offering participants a very unique opportunity to explore different aspects of healing at the individual mind/body/spirit level!  There's not much this dynamo can't do when she sets her mind/body/spirit to it!  What's next?

Keep your eye on her website (above) for more info on her business, facility, clinics, horses and what's NEXT!

           MEET . . . . .
  Susan Connors, DC
              Yelm, WA, USA

                 Doctor of Chiropractic
                 B.S.  Edu/Animal Science
Horse & Rider Trainer
"Horses are my Passion for living"

Susan was born in Queens, New York and grew up in Connecticut.  She has  loved horses ever since she knew what they were.  Susan was the only horse enthrusiast in her family, though they all loved animals. Sue has been teaching consistantly since 1963 and taught her first student at the age of 13.  She later taught riding at the University of Connecticut.  After graduation Susan continued to teach free lance and eventually ran a large training stable.  She has also been doing human & equine chiropractic since 1984.
The first influential riding  teacher she met was Kay Kamish (see our last Newsletter).  They met at college where Sue was a hunter, jumper rider and Kay taught her Dressage.  She said "Kay was the most elegant and organized rider I had seen."  Next was Steve Kanikkeberg who taught her correct biomechanics for the horse.  Next and perhaps most profound was James Shaw from whom she learned to "open my being to the spirit and energy of the  horse to make a true partnership." James introduced me to the power of stillness and inent when riding.  Not easy for a Type A personality!
The books Susan recommends are:
"Tug of War: Classical versus Modern Dressage" by Heuschmann, "The Gymnasium of the Horse" by Steinbrecht, "Give Your Horse a Chance" by d'Endrody and "Dressage Masters" edited by Collins.
Her hobbies are: Riding, dancing, reading, exploring the spiritual nature of life.
Her family includes:  Horses: Brandt, Nick, Van, Uriel & Tasha. Dogs: Patsy and Happy. Cats: Alexander, Diva, Priscilla, Waldo & Talula Bug.
Susan feels so grateful to have her special horses in her life and feels most alive when she is working with horses and riders to help create a happy, nurturing partnership.

 Healing Retreat in Yorkshire, UK

James spent four days,in August, with co-presenters Maggie Roux (Leeds Trinity University) and Mary Trost (Healer, Shaman, Reiki Master/teacher) and nine courageous  women to explore different portals into the personal healing process.  The focus was on body, mind, spirit and nature.  James lead the group in Chi Gong exercises designed to release tension and stress in the body.  Maggie helped us identify which of the 12 archetypes are currently most present in our lives.  She used film to demonstrate these archetypes and their shadow side as a way for us to better understand ourselves and the journey we are on.  Mary shared a multicultural look at healing over the ages and identified the many similarities.  She shared how nature sends us messages everyday to keep us healthy and how we can very simply become aware of these messages.  Everyone got to explore their own  inherent healing gifts and learn about other's.  James and Mary offered a demonstration of different healing modalities and participants could sign up for individual sessions with each of the three presenters.  There really are no words that explain the magic that took place during these four days, for everyone.  It was life affirming and life changing.  We are pretty sure we are all still processing the information and may be for some time.
Rachel (The Magician!) is already planning the next Retreat.  Don't miss out, space is limited.  Contact her at rachel@naturalhorsecompany.com for info
