| Parent Perspective |
Kurt Steinert, board member, father
to Emmett (Grade 3) and Ila Pearl (Kindergarten)
My son runs to class in the morning. As soon as we park the car, he is out the door and on his way - he can't wait. My daughter, who is now in kindergarten, cries if she can't go to school because we have a snow day. I remember as a child resenting having to go to school, and praying for snow days. What an amazing contrast. When I see how happy they are to be in school, how much they want to be learning, how much they love their teachers, I know we made the right decision.

Call for Old Needles & Yarn!
The Princeton-based community mental health agency AAMH (All Access Mental Health, on Alexander Road) was flooded with three feet of water during Hurricane Irene. The therapeutic knitting/crocheting program (run by me) lost all its supplies in the flood. If anyone has old, forgotten knitting needles, crochet hooks, or yarn they are not using (particularly acrylic), I am collecting supplies to donate to get the knitting group back on its feet. Items can be placed in a bag labeled "Joanne" outside the 4th grade classroom. I'm using this opportunity to tidy up my own supply cupboard!

With Gratitude from
the Bolis Family
We are truly grateful to the Waldorf School of Princeton community for the outpouring of friendship that we experienced during Giorgio's recent illness and death on July 9. When we moved to the U.S. 11 years ago, Giorgio was determined to send his children to a Waldorf school, and now his firm belief in the deep wisdom of anthroposophy has become and will remain another great gift that he has given to us, his wife and children, and that is the loving home that we have found in this community.

SCHOOL NEWS
Scrip Update from Marian Seliquini
With cold, wet weather on the way, it is time to stock up on the proper clothing and gear. Shop through scrip, and you'll also help raise money for our school! Gift cards to Land's End, L.L. Bean, and numerous other national retailers are available for purchase. The school receives 3-20% back from these sales. There are three easy ways to purchase scrip: For Grab and Go scrip cards, stop by Monday mornings in front of the Golden House, 8:35-9:15, or Wednesday mornings, 8:30-9:30, in the school store (Golden House kitchen). We keep many retailers in our regular inventory, including Land's End, L.L. Bean, ShopRite, and Whole Foods, as well as local businesses Whole Earth, jaZams, and Nomad Pizza. Pick up an order form in the lobby of the Golden House, fill it out, and leave it with payment in the lock box. You can also find the order form online on the school's website. We'll make arrangements to deliver the order to you. You may also e-mail your order to me at scrip@princetonwaldorf.org. We'll make arrangements for payment and delivery. Finally, why not consider the convenience of a standing order? This is a great way to use scrip for your regular grocery shopping. The scrip program accepts cash, checks, and money orders. Credit cards are accepted for orders over $500. Visit www.glscrip.com to see a complete list of participating retailers available for special order. Any questions? Send them to me. Thanks for your support!
Soup for Supper Comes Early This Year!

Target Program Reminder
If you have a Target REDcard, you could be contributing to WSP! Through its Take Charge of Education program, Target will donate 1% of all purchases made through their stores or website - and 1/2% of all purchases made elsewhere using a Target Visa - to whichever school you designate. To date, WSP has received more than $5,000 through this program! Click here for more details. And don't forget we offer Target scrip as well!
WSP's Holiday Online Auction - Call for Donations
As you may remember from your welcome packets this summer, the Waldorf School of Princeton will host an online auction starting November 25 (Black Friday, the day after Thanksgiving) and ending December 9. We have received some beautiful and unique donations already and are getting excited about the offerings that will be available to holiday shoppers! Many thanks to those families who have donated so far! Our fundraising target for this event is $15,000, and we are asking each family to solicit or contribution two donations to the auction. Need help coming up with donation ideas? Consider the following: - Frequent flyer miles and vacation home stays have been very valuable at our auctions!
- Food items are also very popular. This can be in any conceivable form, from restaurant gift certificates to homemade desserts, to dinner at your house.
- The vendors and merchants that you frequent may be willing to donate. This is a great way for them to attract new customers!
- Donate items that you already own or donate a service provided by you.
The success of this event depends on you, and we are very thankful for your efforts! Please complete the donation form and drop off the forms and items to Marla Hanan at the Golden House by Friday, November 4. Questions? E-mail Amy Krause at amykrause@verizon.net.
Congratulations, Wildcats! A Note from Coach Sheen
The girls cross-country team won their first meet of the season, beating Stuart Country Day School on Monday, September 19. At 4 p.m. the whistle blew, the stopwatches were started, and close to fifty middle school runners set off on a 1.5 mile race around our campus. Our girls and boys were joined by a girls team from Stuart Country Day and a boys and girls team from Princeton Day School. It was a beautiful day befitting our first meet of the season. Mr. Kane and I were so proud of the team and all our runners for their efforts, commitment, and sportsmanship, which were outstanding. Well done, everyone, and thanks to all of our supporters. The sports schedule is here if you would like to join us for future meets. Fiona Crawford, seventh grade, led our very strong girls team to victory! Second place went to our own Ian McIntosh, fifth grade, who seemed to fly round the course, inspiring all our boys and the whole team to stick at it and finish strongly. They all did! Congratulations, Wildcats all.
School Store
Volunteers are needed for the Windy Hill School Store; we offer a 20% discount for volunteers in exchange for a commitment of one Wednesday a month setting up, assisting customers with their purchases, and breaking down. Please e-mail Marla Hanan at mhanan@princetonwaldorf.org if you would like to volunteer. Thanks to former parent Traci Zelinsky, the store's inventory will be restocked this month. There will be new SmartWool socks along with fun birthday and holiday items. Also, each month you can place special orders for items like kitchens and doll houses, which are too big for us to keep in stock. The catalogs will be available during store hours for you to peruse; orders will be placed on the third week of each month, so stop in early. You will be expected to pay after delivery is accepted. Store hours are Wednesdays, 8:30-10:00 a.m. |

Non-Violent Communication Practice Group
Thursdays, 8:45-10:15 a.m.
Orchard Farm (1052 Cherry Hill Rd.)
Non-Violent (Compassionate) Communication (NVC) is a consciousness. It helps us to remain in the moment, connected to one another, and aware of one another's feelings and needs. From this presence, we can better understand one another, thus resolving or preventing conflicts. We can use words or be silent, applying it at work, school, or home, with adults or children. If you would like to learn about and practice NVC, please join us on any Thursday. For more information about the Waldorf NVC Practice Group, contact Ondy Wasem: ondria@alum.mit.edu, 609-933-2994. For more information about NVC in general, go to www.cnvc.org.
