Happenings Around Campus: Martinmas Lantern Walk
Last night my sons Jacob
and Benjamin sang the sweet lantern walk songs as they settled in to bed. What
a joyful thing for the children to carry with them as they face the autumn's
cold breezes and the shorter days. On Friday, November 6, and Sunday, November 8,
children grade 2 and younger will sing these songs as they carry their
beautiful homemade candle-lanterns out into the chilly dusk and along the property's
paths.
If you are new to this
festival of Martinmas, it is a festival that celebrates brotherly love, and it
is based on the legend of Martin of Tours, who
shared his cloak with a beggar to help shield him from the freezing night.
Known for his gentleness and unassuming nature, Martin devoted his life to
bringing warmth and light to those in need.
For more specific
details about the lantern walk, please speak to your child's teacher. Read more
about our school's festivals in the parent handbook!
