Happy October!
Fall is finally in full swing, and the weather stayed crisp and sunny for our annual Michaelmas celebration, which took place on September 29 here on campus.
Our grade school children engaged their will in practical work
(cleaning chicken coops, clearing vegetable beds, harvesting radishes and
carrots) on Mrs. Phinney's farm. They
used their resolve and strength in challenges such as a 4-way rope tug, plank
race, and cider press. The school day
ended with arrows and javelins in the air, an image of Michael overcoming the
dragon, and familiar songs. Our early childhood children donned silk capes
that they dyed, enjoyed dragon bread, and celebrated the changing season in
festive songs and other activities.

In keeping with the season's bounty of changes, we also warmly welcome a new member to our administration: Julie Martin.
Julie is the school's new part-time
bookkeeper, and has four years' experience as the administrator, bookkeeper, and owner of Stanton catering. Julie has also worked as an assistant in our
kindergarten and has two children attending our school, one in grade 3 and
the other in grade 5.
If you have a moment, please stop by and say hello to Julie on the second floor of the Golden House.

Calling All Bakers!! Do you like to bake healthy treats for a crowd? The school would like to hear from parents who would be interested in cooking or baking for certain school events such as open houses. We currently need someone to provide healthy baked goods for the open house on October 24. If you are interested, please contact Diane Barlow at 609-466-1970, x115.
Seeking Winter Garden Musicians
We are currently seeking
musicians to accompany our annual Winter Garden Ceremony on Saturday and
Sunday, December 5 and 6. Offer your music to our Winter Garden ceremonies,
and receive in return the experience of watching a single flame in a darkened
room light, one by one, the candles of each child, until the whole room is
aglow.
The ceremony takes place against a background of gentle,
pentatonic music produced by plucked strings. If you would enjoy helping to
create the subtle, musical pulse that guides the reverent gesture of this
ceremony, using your lyre, kinder harp, lap harp, Celtic harp, concert harp,
guitar, or other plucked string instrument, please e-mail Ondy Wasem by
October 7, in order to plan rehearsals. You may also call her at 609-275-5459 or 609-933-2994 (cell).
Pennies for Peace Over the summer WSP eighth grader Chris Miller read the New York Times bestseller Three Cups of Tea.
The book tells the story of Greg Mortenson, a mountain climber who,
after spending time in Pakistan, vowed to help the impoverished
children of that country. His organization, Central Asia Institute
(CAI), has since built many schools in Pakistan and Afghanistan. Greg
Mortenson has recently created an international program called Pennies
for Peace to encourage the young people in our society to help bring
about positive change.
Chris Miller is collecting pennies for this project and
plans to present them to Mortenson later this month when the author appears in
an event held by the Princeton Public Library. To help out, please bring in
your pennies and look for coin jars in the lobby of the Golden House, the grade
school, and in the nursery/kindergarten wing.
Thank you to Chris Miller for allowing our school the
opportunity to participate in this worldwide effort toward peace!
You can learn more
about Pennies for Peace here.

Nature Camp on October
29! (Ages 4-14)
Because it was so successful last
March, we have once again invited Children of the Earth Foundation to provide a
Nature Camp on the Thursday of parent-teacher conferences (Oct 29). Some parents know that they will want care for their children from 8:30 to 2:30 that day before
knowing about their conference schedule with teachers, so the sign-up is on the
second-floor landing of the Golden House.
Enrichment
Workshop participants take note! Those students not picked up from
their workshop on time will be brought to Ms. Benson in the After School
Program. Just like pickup at the end of school day, parents will be charged
accordingly - No Prior
Arrangement: $20 plus $13.50/hour.
