Worship Workshop

How do we respond to terrorism, tornados, and other tragedy through worship?

Join us for a workshop to explore "Worship in Times of Tragedy & Trouble" on Saturday morning, July 16th, at Kingswood UMC in Buffalo Grove. We'll participate in condensed versions of two model worship services and then share resources/ideas and reflect with each other on how we - as people of faith - convey God's Word in these troubling situations.

This workshop is open to clergy and lay worship planners & leaders in all traditions. The Worship Work Area of the Northern Illinois Conference (UMC) is planning and leading this gathering. Click here for flyer with details.

Please let us know if you plan to come (847-398-0770 or office@kingswoodumc.com) so we can prepare appropriately.

Middle East

Opportunities for Trips to the Middle East

The Middle East Task Force sponsored traveling seminars to Lebanon- Syria and Israel Palestine which were to depart in October have been postponed until March.  The unrest in the Middle East and projected problems in Israel/Palestine after the UN vote in September on Palestinian statehood has made postponement seem wise.  Watch for exact dates of the reschedule seminars - rescheduling is in process.

Proactive Transformation

The Presbytery of Chicago is seeking to resource congregations that are located in changing neighborhoods and communities - and are yearning to engage these changes with a proactive and transformative attitude.

This could be economic, ethnic, racial or social change in the communities where you are currently working to provide a space of worship, mission and faith community.

Read more, or to be considered, return the form and questionnaire to Rev. Shawna Bowman by July 5th, 2011.

To join, contact Joseph Fong.

  • On Clergy Fatigue and Burnout: "While our culture increasingly thinks that assigning a label solves the problem, it is helpful to note some of the symptoms of 'compassion fatigue' indicated in the study..." Keep reading.
  • "Funerals or weddings are one of the unavoidable demands of ministry that cut into family time. Here's a suggestion, so that even though they made a sacrifice, families could look forward to a future fun experience...." Keep reading.
