Blessings and Burdens: Practical Approaches and Postures for the Use of Social Media in Ministry. McCormick Campus, October 15 - 16, 2010.McCormick Theological Seminary logo

The use of social media has impacted our culture in ways that we could never have imagined just a short time ago.  And, while some would keep the church isolated from these changes in culture and technology, many others are seeking a way for the church to use this new media in ways that build up the body of Christ and the support the ministry of the church.
"Blessings and Burdens" will explore this compelling place where our call to be the church in the world and the possibilities that social media provides us to be that church converge. Bruce Reyes-Chow, moderator of the Presbyterian Church (USA) and new media expert, will lead this two-day workshop that will provide a knowledge base and create a level of comfort so that participants will be able to appropriately integrate healthy social media practices into their local ministry contexts.

Worship Alive! Workshops with Tom Boomershine
October 23 and 24th

Notice that many of your worshipers don't appear tuned into the reading of Scripture?  Thinking about ways to make the ancient Word of God come alive in your worship?

Then you'll want to participate in our next Worship Alive! workshop with Dr. Tom Boomershine, "Scripture by Heart: Renewal of the Performance of the Scriptures in Worship." Boomershine is the founder of the Network of Biblical Storytellers and renowned for his work in training "readers" to rediscover the vitality of proclaiming scripture in worship.  You can read about his work at: www.gotell.org.

Tom's offer is--you bring a group of interested lay readers to his workshop--and they'll get enough training and resources to come back and begin working together as a "Scripture By Heart" group in your congregation.

You have two chances to get persons to this training: Saturday afternoon, October 23rd, at the Presbyterian Church of Western Springs OR Sunday, October 24th, at the United Church of Rogers Park in Chicago.  The workshop is 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. both days.

Registration is only $35 in advance ($45 at the door). And you can get a 20% discount for registering 3 or more persons from your congregation.
