Invoices from Emergency Responders
Fire departments and other public emergency service agencies that respond to environmental spills typically are authorized to seek reimbursement from spill generators. But not all the charges appearing on their invoices are reasonable or reimbursable. Expert guest speaker Tom Moses, President of Spill Center, will explain how to respond to these demands for reimbursement in a webinar on June 21.
A recognized authority on environmental spills and regulatory issues, Tom received his law degree in 1986 and is a former U.S. EPA toxicologist. He received a certificate in Hazardous Materials Control and Emergency Response from Georgia Institute of Technology and has served as secretary of the Commercial Vehicle Alliance Security Committee and as a panel chair for the National Academies' Transportation Research Board.
In the webinar, Tom will discuss things that spill generator's should do before reimbursing public service agencies. They include:
- Request a copy of the ordinance authorizing the agency to seek reimbursement
- Evaluate whether all charges on the invoice are reasonable or reimbursable by law
- Determine if the scope of work was reasonable for the size and nature of the spill
- Request documentation to verify charges for labor and gear cleaning/replacement
- Explore alternative ways to satisfy demands for reimbursement by emergency responders
Join Tom online for this complimentary, educational webinar and learn how to avoid paying more than the law allows to public sector responders after an environmental release.
