"The
prices of everything, including food, is going up. Help from the Food Bank
releases these funds to pay for utilities, especially since we are still paying
fuel costs from the last cold spell."

It's summer and it's a challenge to keep enough food on the shelves at the Food Bank. Every year this happens because donations drop off about the same time kids get out of
school. Low-income families struggling with the slow economy now have an added burden of
feeding kids who usually eat breakfast and lunch at school through the
free and
reduced lunch program.
Hunger impacts the
quality of life for everyone in Hays County. The Food Bank has
but one mission - to feed hungry people in this tough economy. Every donation brings the security of food on the table and the
promise
of better days to come.

Remodeling Update
|
New office space in enclosed drive-through | The work on our facility on Herndon Street continues, as construction crews have enclosed the drive-through and are beginning the work on the interior offices this week. This project will increase space for food storage, enlarge the main entrance, and add additional
workstations for staff. While our ultimate plan is to build a new Food Bank at the Village of San Marcos site in the future, this added space will allow us to better respond to the increased need for food that the economic slowdown has brought. This expansion still leaves us with about half the space needed to handle daily operations given the number of people we serve each week. We have seen a 45% increase in the average number of times food is given out per month since 2007. The remodel project is scheduled for completion in Mid-August. Watch for an invitation to an open house to be held in early October.
