Turkeys Tackling Hunger Campaign
October 5 - November 30

Picture of foodIt's Turkey time again!  Our annual campaign to raise money for Thanksgiving turkey boxes kicks off the first week of October.

$20 buys one family a holiday meal that includes a turkey and all the trimmings for a Thanksgiving meal. Last year, we put together turkey boxes for 1376 families throughout Hays County.

With the holidays approaching, the situation looks bleak for people dealing with a job loss, illness, or hard times.  They could use your help. Learn more and donate online here.

The Food Bank needs volunteers to help get the word out, put up campaign posters and distribute donation envelopes.  If you or your church, business, or civic group would like to help, call 512.392.8300.
Wimberley Food Drive a BIG Success
Almost 13,000 pounds of food was collected August 30 in a food drive sponsored by St. Stephen's Episcopal Church.

Partners in this first time effort included the Hays County Food Bank, St. Stephen's, The Crisis Breadbasket, and Brookshire Brothers Grocery Store.

Volunteers from St. Steven's Jubilee group distributed grocery bags in targeted neighborhoods during the week and then returned to pick up food donations on Saturday. Church members also set up a tent to collect food at Brookshire Brothers during the day. Come Sunday
morning, members of the church gathered in the fellowship hall to see the room brimming with food and celebrate their success.

Donations will be used to stock empty shelves at the Hays County Food Bank and Crisis Bread Basket in Wimberley.  Both organizations have been hard hit with an increased demand for food in this economic downturn. They have partnered to feed hungry people in the Wimberley area for many years.

Our thanks to Nancy Davis, St. Stephen's Jubilee coordinator, and the many volunteers who pitched in to help with the drive.  The group set a goal to collect 5000 pounds of food and almost tripled that amount their first time out, showing their commitment to helping their Wimberley neighbors in need.
