Greetings fresh from Dallas where the ride to your hotel is a "Cowboy Cab" and the handsome, engraved sign on your posh digs reads, "No hand guns allowed." I'm back from the international conference for "eWomen Network" and it was, in Texas style, a larger-than-life experience!
This week's edition of Crossing Paths is obviously late for an obvious reason--but is compensated for by pictures! Because pics are not only worth a thousand words, but take much less time to read!! They also evoke the spirit of my upcoming blog, "Where Is Grandma Today?" It will be in operation soon and I plan to make it picture-packin' good. Or in Tex-speak, "I'll be "shootin' it up" for your visual pleasure.

Today, however, just off the plane from my wondrous, multi-faceted networking fest is this thought: "That One Thing."
Many of you have heard my story of making a last-second decision to turn right on Douglas Blvd. instead of left one night a little over a year ago. "Left" led directly to home and putting my feet up. "Right" led to a talk on self-publishing at Borders. I drove by that choice-point spot recently and was flooded with emotion. The simple act of turning right has led not only to phenomenal outer change, but more importantly, to an inner evolution that's been 61 years in the making. The Spirit is infinitely creative and I'm sure I could have ended up in much the same place through a whole different process, but all my heart can feel is the beat of "that one thing" at the corner of Sunrise and Douglas. (For more about that story, go to Crossing Paths Archives and read the first edition, "Welcome to Crossing Paths.")
How do we spot "That One Thing" opportunities? There are so many variations! We could talk all day about it and wouldn't that be fun? But today, I offer you three guidelines for spotting the moments that rearrange your life--and you--for good!

Hold on! Isn't that a T.O.T?
T.O.T. #1: Sometimes "that one thing" is not the line of least resistance-that is to say, something else is easier and more desirable. Why not just go for the something else? Alas, it just doesn't feel right. This is a tricky pickle, isn't it? Yet it is precisely this inner discernment that sets us on a solid path: "What I feel like doing and would prefer doing" vs. "What my inner voice is calling me to." I so admire women who say, "I just really wanted to buythat-gothere-quitit-stayhome(etc) but it just didn't feel right." As far as my own fateful intersection choice, something tells me that even if I had turned left, my angels would have engineered a U-turn. Left just wouldn't have felt right.
T.O.T. #2: Sometimes "That One Thing" has an irresistible draw, but once you move in its direction, opposing forces show up. Fueled by inspiration, you jumped on board with the OBVIOUS next "One Thing" only to find you have a crew of conscientious objectors in your back pack! They're all so dang eager to tell you why that one thing isn't "necessary, affordable or wise."
I used to instantly fall for this hoopla--ruminating how I could get out of my decision or if I couldn't, berating myself for my choice. Somewhere along the line, I realized something: all my best decisions were made this way--not from the mind, but from the heart-shaped gut. Often the irresistible draw of something life-shifting doesn't pass the "sense and sensibility" test the next day. That's why we needed its magnetism to choose it!
T.O.T. #3 - Sometimes "That One Thing" is a challenge in itself. So much so that you find yourself asking, "If I'm supposed to be doing this, why is it so much work?" This was my feeling many years ago when a friend urged me to make an appointment with the astrologer she'd just seen. Her experience was compelling and my curiosity thermometer was hot, hot, hot! But one attempt after another to reach the astrologer and schedule an appointment failed. Was I supposed to conclude that this experience just wasn't for me or continue my Dial-a-thon? I really didn't know. I mentioned it to a friend who suggested that some of the most important steps we take require persisting past the initial veil of fear. After 15 years of making my living as an astrologer, I'd have to agree with her. My work with the planets has been one of the brightest "One Things" in my historical sky.
What "One Thing" is calling you today? Has been calling you for awhile? Is waiting for your response? Is just on the other side of your resistance? Move toward it and see what happens.
Til We Cross Paths Again,
Maridel

But That's Not All!
It's been interesting for me to watch my subscriber newsletter, But That's Not All! morph into a life of its own.
Holding the intention to go more deeply into each edition of Crossing Paths, BTNA has grown into a story format -- with each issue presenting an in-depth full-color story of the topic at hand.
Next week will feature yours truly and a very special celebrity in the story of "That One Thing" from my Lone Star State sojourn.
