Dear potential presenters,
 
Welcome to our first annual Autism Conference entitled "Across the Spectrum"!  We hope you will make plans to be part of this groundbreaking conference encompassing all aspect of autism spectrum disorders.
 
Please see below for more information on our conference and how to submit your proposal to be included as a presenter.  We do not have final details on location but we will be in the Dayton, Ohio area. 
 
Deadline for proposals is October 1, 2010.
 
Notifications of acceptance and instructions will be sent by Oct. 10, 2010.

Content Area
The following content areas will be covered in the conference.  Please submit your proposal indicating which content area your are best suited for.
 
  • Ohio Waiver system (I/O, Level One, Medicaid explained)
 
  • Early intervention (identification, assessment, diagnosis and support, treatment and program approaches)
 
  • Communication (language deficits, augmentative communication, approaches for increasing communication)
 
  • Education (Instructional practices and classroom interventions, curriculum and IEP, 504 Plan development, professional development
 
  • Behavior (Functional Behavior Assessments, Behavior Support plans, intensive behavior interventions, medical treatment plans, ABA)
 
  • Social Skills (strategies for increasing social competencies)
 
  • Sensory Processing (Strategies for addressing sensory processing difficulties)
 
  • Life with Autism (panel of parents and individuals with autism, personal perspective, family and caregiver support)
 
  • Transition to adulthood (education, employment, residential, self-determination, independence, resources and choices for high- and low-functioning individuals)
 
  • Financial Planning (special needs trusts, financial security and long term planning)
 
  • Support Agencies (support available in the greater Dayton area)
 
  • Resources (resource agencies and what they provide)
 
  • Interventions (various interventions explained so families can make informed choices about what's right for their child)
 
  • Biomedical (current research, diet and nutrition, medications, environmental health, treatments)
 
  • Technology (the use of technology in instruction and life skills)
 
Submission Process
Submissions must be sent via email to asadayton@gmail.com to include all 6 elements listed below:
 
1. Content Area:  Indicate which area your presentation belongs
 
2.  Presentation Title:  12 words or less
 
3.  Speaker Information:  Include complete titles, degrees and certificates, mailing address, phone, and email for each presenter involved in this proposal.
 
4.  Speaker Bio:  Summarize the presenter's background/experience in the area in which they would like to present.  May be used for publication by the Autism Society - Dayton Chapter and is subject to editing.
 
5.  Conference program description:  Max 80 words, subject to editing by the Autism Society - Dayton Chapter.
 
6.  Session content plan (abstract):  Provide a complete description of the presentation including content to be provided, learning objectives, and how the material relates to improving the lives of individuals with an autism spectrum disorder.
 
 
Please read in its entirety:
 
Session length to be determined after all submissions have been reviewed.  Speakers do not need to be members of the Autism Society to submit, to have their work accepted, or to present.
 
Presenters will be required to submit presentation materials (handouts) in electronic format (.pdf) priof to the conference for uploading to the conference website.  The Autism Society-Dayton Chapter will not make copies of handouts for sessions.
 
Standard AV presentation equipment (projector, screen, microphone) will be provided.  Additional materials needed by the presenter will be the responsibility of the presenter.  Presenters can bring their own laptops.  The Autism Society-Dayton Chapter is not responsible for maladaptive equipment, cables, or hook-ups.  Presenters should plan to bring all they need for a successful presentation.
 
Please be sure you have appropriate permission to utilize the video/photos of adults or children.  Presenters requiring adaptive equipment, handicap access, or special accommodations should make them know in their proposal.
 
Each proposal will be reviewed by a panel of qualified individuals.  Selections will be based on quality and practicality of the proposed material and the need for a balanced program.  Presenters will cover their own travel/lodging expenses and will receive no remuneration for presenting but will receive free registration to the conference.
