Apologies for the late edition this week. Editor Daryl was out of town at a conference last week.
Club President, Tom Ketelaar, called the meeting of September 10 to order. Jonathan Turner once again provided the entertainment on this Patriot's Day Eve.
The first announcement concerned the bags tournament this weekend. The starting gun will go off at 11:00 a.m. at Schwiebert Park this Saturday, September 15. If you know of some who might want to participate but have not yet registered, or if you'd like to work the event, please jump in. It is a lot of fun and, hopefully, the weather forecaster will cooperate.
The membership was also informed that on September 28 and 29, there will be limited Peanut Days at IH Mississippi Valley Credit Union in Rock Island. Call any Club officer or Board member for more information.
John Califf reminded us that the District Interclub luncheon will be held September 20 at 11:45 at the Davenport Outing Club. This is always a fun event and a good opportunity to get to know fellow Kiwanians in our District.
First Vice President, Jeff Behrens, next enlightened us on the new satellite club which will be developing shortly. This would be an evening club and reflect an effort to reach out to members of the community, or even current Club members, who might be unable to attend our scheduled meetings or unable to involve themselves with the number of Club activities in which we engage. This new club will be meeting once a month and will operate on a less-intensive schedule.
Liz Loveless reminded us that the NAMI Walk will be held October 6 near Modern Woodmen Park. Contact Liz for further details.
In Fun and Fellowship, the Kartel won the preliminary prize and also won the opportunity to go for the grand prize. Once again, the wiley games of Mike Bell enabled the grand prize to elude the Kartel.
President Tom next went through a number of grants which the Club leadership had approved. Rock Island High School Environmental Action Club received $500; Transitions Mental Health received $1,000; Habitat for Humanity received $750; Friendship Manor received $500; St. Joseph the Worker House received $1,000; and New Kingdom Trail Riders received $1,000.
