Upcoming Events/Fundraisers/Dates

We will be helping stuff easter eggs for the annual Rock Island Parks & Recreation Easter Egg Hunt at our March 26th meeting.

It's Rose Day Time.  We will be giving details about this fundraiser at our next meeting, but we need EVERYONE to try and sell roses this year - to yourself, coworkers, friends, etc.  The profit margin is almost 50% on this fundraiser!  CLICK HERE to open a pdf of the order form you can use to email to friends and coworkers!

The Opening Act

President Tom Ketelaar called the meeting of March 19 to order.  Providing entertainment again were Jonathan Turner and his Mighty Kiwanis Leprechaun Chorus.

Bill Nelson started off announcements with a reminder that egg stuffing for the spring egg hunt will take place at our next meeting on March 26.  He also passed around a  list for sign-ups to volunteer to assist at this annual fun event on March 31.

Tom Plechaty reminded us that Rose Day orders can be placed now at any time.  Orders must be turned in with money by April 9 for this event, which will be coming soon on April 25.

John Califf reminded the membership that this month's Interclub was to occur in the form of a dinner meeting in Annawan March 19.

Liz Loveless brought to our attention the annual District 17 grand bowl-a-thon at Milan Lanes.  This event will be coming up April 22, so it wouldn't be too early to start stacking up those odor eaters in your favorite bowling shoes.

Guests included two Interclubs from Atkinson and Bettendorf.  We were reminded, in no uncertain terms, of the annual rolle bolle extravaganza to be held in Atkinson June 13.  This will give you enough time to search for your favorite bolle up in your attic and tighten up those rivets.

In Fun and Fellowship, the Kartel won the preliminary prize, which it gladly accepted.  Gene Smith won the opportunity to go for the grand prize but couldn't wrest it away from Jeff Behrens.

The Feature Attraction

The program was given by Brett Hitchcock of Circa 21.  Brett began by giving some historical context stemming from the vision and dream of his father, Dennis, over 35 years ago while he was on the faculty at Augustana College.  Brett gave an interesting vignette of how Denny's dinner theater was to have come to life in the Old Oaks Dinner Club south of Milan until he was informed by his realtor that the Fort Theater was available.  The rest, as they say, is around 36 years of history.  Brett continued his presentation by going through the performance schedule for the year.  He made an observation that he has seen an increase in the number of theater artists who come to the Quad Cities, supplementing the already available local talent.  Brett also reminded the group of some renowned alumni from Circa 21, including Phil McKinley.  Brett also highlighted the other functions of Circa 21, those being the Speakeasy, a new burlesque troupe, and comedy competition.
