Upcoming Events/Fundraisers/Dates

We will be helping stuff easter eggs for the annual Rock Island Parks & Recreation Easter Egg Hunt at our March 26th meeting.  Due to a loss of sponsorship, if you can bring tootsie rolls, or wish to make a contribution to assist with the purchase, please contact Bill Nelson (nelson.william@rigov.org).  The Egg Hunt is March 31st, and volunteers are needed for this also.

It's Rose Day Time.  We will be giving details about this fundraiser at our next meeting, but we need EVERYONE to try and sell roses this year - to yourself, coworkers, friends, etc.  The profit margin is almost 50% on this fundraiser!  CLICK HERE to open a pdf of the order form you can use to email to friends and coworkers!

The Opening Act

President Tom Ketelaar called the meeting of March 12 to order.  Jonathan Turner provided the entertainment, along with his NCAA Kiwanis Dunkers.

President Tom's first announcement concerned the next Division midyear meeting to be held March 31.  Please contact Tom if you'd like to attend.

Tom next announced that the annual Division Bowl-A-Thon will be held here in the Quad Cities at Milan Lanes at 1:00 p.m. on April 22.  Once again, Liz Loveless will serve as team captain.  If you'd like to participate, remember to do your stretching exercises before you try to bend over and lace up those bowling shoes.

The Club's annual meeting will be held in May, at which time, next year's officers will be elected.

Rose Day is coming up, and Tom Plechaty will be overseeing this project again.  Books of order cards are available, so dust off that checkbook and make a few points.

In a somewhat different twist, the Club NCAA basketball pool will be circulated next week.  Yes, it is possible that when the chart comes around, you may find yourself selecting teams that have already lost, but hey, it's all for a good cause, right?

Tom next presented Joe Robb with team treats in recognition of his team's membership participation drive.  Make sure you inform your team leader of any Kiwanis activities that might generate points for your team.

John Califf announced that the next Interclub will be held at 6:30 p.m. on March 19 in Annawan.  For those of you who'd like to see how a very strong, loyal, but small Club operates, come on out.

In Fun and Fellowship, Ron Quay won the preliminary prize, which he graciously donated back to the Club.  In a rare event, his ticket was also drawn for the grand prize, but the wiley Mike Bell kept the money for the Club.

The Feature Attraction

The program was given by Tristan Tapscott of the District Theater.  Tristan began the program by briefly giving some of his background and his participation in moving the former Harrison Hilltop Theater into the Rock Island Entertainment District.  The balance of the program consisted largely of excellent performances by some of the local artists who participate in Tristan's performance lineup.

Upcoming Programs

March 19         Brett Hitchcock, Circa 21 Dinner Playhouse

March 26th      Easter Egg stuffing for Spring Egg Hunt
