The Opening Act

President Tom Ketelaar called the meeting of February 13 to order.  Jonathan Turner once again provided the entertainment with his Valentine's Day Eve Warblers.

President Tom reminded Board members that a meeting would be held on February 14.  He also announced that a number of pancake fests are still coming up and that if you're interested, you could certainly call him and check out the schedule.

The annual Lose It or Luge It follies will be held February 20 at Snowstar from approximately 8:00 - 10:00.  Tom guarantees that there will be plenty of snow.

In the membership participation contest, Joe Robb's team won the prize for the first quarter.

Steve Schroder reminded us that the next Interclub will be held February 27 at 6:00 p.m. in Geneseo.

President Tom presented his January presidential pen to Bob Stecker in recognition of all of the services he has provided to the Club through his business.

Guests included members of the Alleman High School Key Club.

In Fun and Fellowship, the preliminary prize went to the Kartel.  The Kartel also won the opportunity to win the grand prize, which Bob Wakefield managed to wrest from the clutches of Mike Bell.

The Feature Attraction

The program was presented by retired State of Illinois CSI Agent, Tom Merchie.  Tom began by giving some of his background, starting with his participation in Boy Scouts and the fact that his troop had been sponsored by our Club.  Tom originally worked with the Rock Island Police Department and then went to the Illinois State Police after several years.  He retired last year.  A fascinating feature of his program was that he related the numerous differences between real-life CSI work and the glamorized television version.  He agreed that technology has had a significant impact on his work, particularly in the use of DNA, fingerprint replication, and use of digital vs. film photography.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY

"When I was born, I was so surprised, I couldn't talk for a year and a half."
