Club President, Tom Ketelaar, called the meeting of January 16 to order. Providing the entertainment once again was Jonathan Turner and his Golden Globes Orchestra.
President Tom's first announcement referred to an e-mail he had received from Lieutenant Governor, Mark Peterson, concerning a number of Pancake Day events being sponsored by various clubs in the area. If your mouth is a-waterin' for some Kiwanis pancakes, contact Tom and I'm sure he'll give you some dates, times, locations and prices.
Word came back from both John Califf and Jim Horstmann that longtime Club member, Marty Katz, would gladly welcome visitors in his room No. 590 at Trinity West. With his abundance of therapy sessions scheduled, the best time to try would probably be late afternoon or early evening.
Condolences were also expressed from the Chair to Cathy Rochau on the recent death of her father.
John Califf also announced that the Grant Committee would be meeting January 30 and all Committee members were encouraged to attend since, apparently, a number of organizations with very worthwhile projects are seeking some financial aid.
The next Interclub is also to be held on January 30 at 6:00 p.m. at Illini Hospital to break bread with the East Moline/Silvis Club.
Dick Fislar announced that next Monday, he hoped to be passing out tickets to those who ordered them for the annual night at Circa with Rotary.
President Tom also announced that a planning session for this year's Use It or Luge It activity will be held at 4:50 this Thursday, January 19, at Huckleberry's.
Word has it that there were certain equipment malfunctions involving the recently-distributed Club directory. If you'd like to have an on-the-spot correction made, please bring your directory to the next meeting on January 23.
For those of you into Kiwanis trivia, President Tom informed us that the 97th birthday of Kiwanis International will occur on January 21.
In Fun and Fellowship, Dick Timmer won the preliminary prize, which he graciously donated back to the Club. For the first round of the grand prize, Bob Tapprich qualified but in a fit of generosity, returned that to the Club. For the final qualifier on the grand prize, Bob's number was again drawn and, this time, he won the roll-over prize of $10. It just goes to show that good things happen to good people.
In a special and proud Club moment, President Tom installed three new members, Steve Fitzsimmons, Chris Caspers, and Lisa Biermann. Congratulations to all three of these individuals and thank you to all their sponsors, Daryl Empen, Chris Elsberg and Donna Keim. |
