President Tom Ketelaar called the meeting of December 12 to order. Entertainment was once again furnished by Jonathan Turner and his Ringing Sleigh Bells Hallelujah Chorus.
Tom began the announcements with his reminder that the first meeting of the New Year will be January 9. This will be the annual joint meeting with Rotary at which time, we will be honored by the attendance of the Mayor of the City of Rock Island, who will be giving his State of the City address. There will be no meeting on January 2.
The Dining Tour book sales have been very successful, so successful, in fact, that we don't have any more books. If you would still wish to obtain one for the Club's credit, please contact an officer or board member.
Dick Fislar again reminded us of our January 25 joint Kiwanis/Rotary soiree at Circa. Seats are limited so get your orders in quickly.
We were also reminded that the Club's annually-sponsored Martin Luther King Center holiday party will be held this Wednesday, December 14. Start showing up at 3:30 and expect to be done around 5:00.
John Califf again reminded us of the Tom & Jerry party sponsored by the Davenport Kiwanis Club at the Outing Club in Davenport. For those of you who have not experienced this outing, it's a fun social event, even if you don't happen to drink.
The Bad Gift Exchange will be held December 19. That should give you plenty of time to rummage through your attic or basement to find that little bit of heaven you've been saving for just this occasion.
Tom Plechaty, graciously serving again as our own Club Cheese Wiz, thanked all Club members who participated in the cheese purchases. He announced that the total take from Kiwanis and Rotary was over $1,000.
In Fun and Fellowship, Steve Andich won the preliminary prize, which he graciously donated back to the Club. The Kartel won the opportunity to go for the grand prize, which they elected to take on the first go-around.
This was followed by a perfect attendance pin-hanger presentation, recognizing perfect attendance to Club members all the way from one year to 35, in the case of Dick Timmer.
