President Tom Ketelaar called the meeting of November 28 to order. Once again, Jonathan Turner provided the entertainment along with his Turkey Gizzard Leftovers.
The first announcement came from the rear corner of the room from that renowned Cheese Wiz, Tom Plechaty. He explained that there would be one more week for purchases and the following week, deliveries would commence.
President Tom gave us a smart reminder to not breeze past the check-in house table when arriving for a meeting. There is often a lot of useful information on the table, as well as sign-up sheets for various Club activities.
John Califf gave out another call for the annual Davenport Club Tom & Jerry party December 15. This will be an Interclub for those who can still find their way home afterward. If you need a ride, I'm sure Mr. Califf will make the necessary arrangements.
In Fun and Fellowship, the Kartel won the preliminary prize. It also won the opportunity to go for the grand prize but wasn't so lucky for that.

Our speaker for the day was Grey Giovanine, an annual visitor to the Club and the head coach for the Augustana men's basketball team. Grey opened his presentation on several humorous notes which were taken well by the audience. Grey anticipates having a great team again this year. Seven of his top eight players are back this year from a team that got as far as the Elite Eight in the Division III basketball tournament last year. With the St. Ambrose University game at St. Ambrose coming up this week, Grey talked about the value of this strong local rivalry, as well as the great rivalry that has developed over the years with Illinois Wesleyan University. Grey opened up his allotted time to questions and several were presented. Grey explained that the three biggest selling points he has with Augustana are the academic stature of the school, the success of his basketball program, and campus life opportunities. He also discussed some of the differences he found between recruiting at the Division I level, where he was head varsity men's basketball coach at Lamar University in Texas, compared with the Division III level, where no athletic scholarships are given but fewer technical controls are imposed in the recruiting effort. Grey surmised that Wheaton would probably be a top league competitor this year and invited everyone out to watch the team in action.
