The Opening Act

President Tom Ketelaar called the meeting of October 17 to order. Entertainment was again provided by Jonathan Turner and the National Bosses Day Singers.

Dick Fislar reminded us that Dining Tour books are again available and that the cost of the book would be recouped by participating in the joint social with Rotary Night at Circa on Wednesday, January 25.

Sheila Gusse reminded us that the Martin Luther King reading project is in full swing and needs your help. Readers participate Wednesdays and Thursdays from about 4:00 - 5:00 in the afternoon.

John Califf informed us that the next Interclub would be October 25 with the Bettendorf Club serving as hosts for a dinner meeting at the Hy-Vee on Middle Road in Bettendorf.

John also informed us that the Grants Committee would be meeting on October 31.

Mike Bell informed us that peanuts were available for pickup after meetings.

In Fun and Fellowship, the Kartel won the preliminary prize, which it gladly claimed. For the grand prize, Les Bohnert won the opportunity to win but managed to lose.

The Feature Attraction

The program was given by former General Manager of the Quad City River Bandits, Kirk Goodman. Kirk will be leaving the area for a different venture but related some of his happy memories of the past four years in the Quad Cities. Kirk has spent a total of 16 years in minor league baseball. Kirk cited a number of examples of how innovation was brought into the marketing of the club and felt pleased that he was leaving on a high note. Kirk remarked that the cooperation and commitment of the City of Davenport had been very well received. He closed by encouraging everyone to participate in and support minor league sports.
