Club President, Craig Knobloch, called the meeting of September 12 to order. Jonathan Turner was unable to attend, so Craig wisely chose not to do one of those a capella things since we may want to get invited back to the Martin Luther King Center, where the meeting was held.
As always, there were numerous announcements. First, the September 15 MegaClub meeting will be held at the Outing Club. If you have any last-minute plans of attending, please feel free to contact one of our Club officers.
We were also reminded again of the case lot sale on peanuts this year. Get 'em while they're still salty.
The next Interclub will be September 28, when the Steve Schroder caravan will leave for Kewanee.
Induction of new officers will be held September 29 at the River House in Moline. Please get your reservations in to Tom Ketelaar at your earliest convenience.
Liz Loveless graciously extended her thanks to Bob Stecker for continuing the reminders of the NAMI Walk on October 1. Contact either Bob or Liz for further details.
Next week, we'll start our sales of Dining Tour books. We all know that there are almost as many organizations that sponsor this as sponsor Birdies for Charity, but if you want to do something for the various charities and programs the Club supports, please consider picking up at least one book during the next few weeks when they're available.
Adam Bain gave us a final reminder of the bags tournament scheduled for Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at Schwiebert Fun Park. Adam gave the call for volunteers for the pre-event work crew Friday afternoon. He also mentioned that there would be several items available for auction, including a complimentary night at Guys in Ties, the successor to Comedy Sportz, a Quad City Botanical Center membership, and a Quad City Arts Festival of Trees Christmas basket.
Guests included members of the Rock Island High School Key Club.
There were many Happy Dollars, including one amazement dollar offered up by Bob Scranton, who finally turned in that Peanut Day canister that had been used as a door prop for the last five years.
Our Key Club guests extended an invitation to any and all who might be interested in joining them in the Rock Island High School homecoming parade the afternoon of September 23. After careful consideration and exhausting Googling to find something to toss out to the crowd, it was decided that the parade will also be an occasion for a peanut toss.
In Fun and Fellowship, the Kartel gladly took the $4 preliminary prize to help offset the $8 invested. Gene Smith qualified for the grand prize, for which he won - hold onto your hats - a bag of peanuts.
