Upcoming Events/Fundraisers/Dates

The Opening Act

Club President, Craig Knobloch, called the meeting of August 8 to order. Jonathan Turner wasn't available to provide the entertainment and, knowing how unpleasant mutinies can be, Craig declined to have Adam Bain lead any a cappella singing.

Thanks was expressed to all Club members and their families who assisted at the weekend softball tournament and the convention.

If you have any thoughts on a Hixson, please get the information to Craig as soon as possible.

We received another reminder about Kiwanis Night with the Bandits and were reminded to hit up Tom Ketelaar for tickets for what is certainly to be a fun event.

Liz Loveless directed our attention to this year's NAMI walk, which will also feature Rock Island's now famed Schwiebert Riverfront Park. More information on this later.

We were reminded of Labor Day weekend coming up sooner than we think and the opportunity to walk the parade along with your fellow Kiwanians.

John Califf informed us that the next Interclub will be a visit to the Moline group August 16.

Craig gave us our weekly reminder that the September 12 meeting will be held at the Martin Luther King Center.

The now famed Rock Island Kiwanis bags tournament will be held September 17, also at Schwiebert Riverfront Park, and we are still being encouraged to form, identify, discover and kidnap teams.

Bill Nelson added his thanks to all who assisted at the softball tournament, informing us that a total of $234 came in for tips.

In Fun and Fellowship, Les Bohnert won the preliminary prize, which he graciously donated back to the Club. Dave Levin won the opportunity to go for the grand prize and, electing to pull out all stops, Jeff Behrens made sure that Dave lost.

The Feature Attraction

The program was presented by Donnie Miller of the Quad City Bicycle Club. Donnie informed us that the group started in 1964 with the objective of raising funds, maintaining awareness of bicycle safety, and fun family participation. Donnie brought up the Criterium, which moved from the Moline Hill District to the Rock Island District and noted that it is one of the oldest continuously operating road races in the area. Donnie opened up his discussion for vigorous and interesting discussion on bicycle safety and accommodation.
