President Craig Knobloch called the meeting of August 1 to order. Entertainment was again provided by Jonathan Turner and his RAGBRAI Choristers.
In a demonstration of profound versatility, Adam Bain served as song leader.
Daryl Empen gave us an update on softball, and he again expressed a need for Club members to work the gate Saturday afternoon. There are a few other scattered openings including, believe it or not, working the beer tent. Contact Daryl with your preferences.
Bill Nelson added his eager anticipation for the softball tournament and brought along the tournament supervisor and a brand-new employee to the Park District as guests.
Tom Ketelaar reminded us of QC Kiwanis Night with the River Bandits August 21.
Next Monday, the membership will be presented with the recommendations of the Grant Committee, which was to meet after Monday's meeting.
Craig gave us another reminder that the September 12 meeting will be held at the Martin Luther King Center with Club member, Jerry Jones, serving as host.
On the Labor Day parade, it appears that we have been able to secure a spot closer to the front of the parade, hopefully making the experience a bit more palatable to those who have wanted to participate in the past but have been frustrated by positioning to the rear of the parade group. More definitive information will be forthcoming next Monday.
The biggest and best ever bags tournament will be held September 17 at Schwiebert Riverfront Park. Bag board work continues at Jeff Behrens' place and if you'd like to make your own impact on the event and join Jeff's group of power tool jugglers, let Jeff know.
Adam Bain, Bill Nelson and Bruce Harding brought guests made up of colleagues, relatives and business contacts.
In Fun and Fellowship, Jeff Behrens tried to fill in for Mike Bell. While Bob Tapprich cooperated in donating his preliminary prize winnings back to the Club, there was no such luck on the grand prize, which was won by Alicia Shuman.
