Volume 90 No 37                   July 6, 2011
Upcoming Events/Fundraisers/Dates

The Opening Act

July 5, our Club participated in a joint meeting with the Rock Island Rotary Club.  Rotary served as hosts of the meeting, so most of the available time was taken up on their standard meeting agenda.

At the appropriate time on the agenda, Vice President Tom Ketelaar, filling in for Club President Craig Knobloch, introduced current and incoming officers.

Tom also presented the President of the Rock Island Rotary Club with its portion of the receipts from our Club's recent Rose Day attributable to Rotary participation.

Tom also reminded everyone in attendance of the coming bags tournament.  He reminded us that early registration had to be made by June 15.

Regarding Birdies for Charity, Gene Smith was pleased to announce that, as it so happened, our Club significantly exceeded the success of the Rotary Club in amounts pledged.

We were also reminded by Tom that a city-wide Kiwanis Night at Modern Woodmen Park would be held August 21.

July 12 will be the next Board meeting.

The Feature Attraction

The program was given by Kathy Weiman of Alternatives for the Older Adult.  Kathy started by presenting a very informative and well-constructed power point presentation on the program.  Kathy went on to address the mission of Alternatives and identified all of the services performed by this organization.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY

"America did not invent human rights.  In a very real sense, it is the other way around.  Human rights invented America."     - Jimmy Carter
