In the absence of Club President, Craig Knobloch, First VP Tom Ketelaar ably filled in. Jonathan Turner provided the entertainment along with his Rock Island Rocks Chorus.
The first announcement came from Tom Plechaty, who reminded us that we only have three weeks to sell roses, so if you've ever considered this to be a good idea, it would probably be a good idea to start on this immediately.
Tom informed us that an invocation and songleader sign-up sheet would be coming soon.
On April 2, there will be a Club project for Kids Fighting Hunger. We need approximately 10 volunteers. If you'd be interested in spending some time for this worthwhile group on April 2, please contact Tom Ketelaar. Work begins at 9:00 and will be at the old Wayne Montgomery store on Brady Street.
Liz Loveless informed us that Christian Care had thanked us for the supply of toiletries which had been deposited with that group. The next project will be for doing the same in preparation for the annual Veterans Stand Down, coming soon.
By the time you read this, John Califf will have gathered together his Interclub group and trotted on out to Geneseo for a 6:30 p.m. meeting on March 22.
A representative from the Salvation Army was present to accept the Club's donation of $1,000 to support the Army's Mittens for Kids program and also to give us a report on fondly-remembered former member, Dave Luft.
Guests included representatives of a Bettendorf Interclub.
There was a flood of Happy Dollars, many in recognition of the State Champion Rock Island Rocks boys' basketball team, which brought us to a performance by Club favorite, Daryl "Mudcat" Townsend.
In Fun and Fellowship, the Kartel won the preliminary prize, but Mike Bell took it out on Dave Bender, who had won the opportunity to go for the grand prize.
